Dedicated in 1913, the $600,000 steel truss lift-span bridge provides a link between the downtown business district and the industrial Tideflats area. It was renamed for Mr. Morgan, perhaps the Northwest's foremost historian, in 1997.

ca. 1979. View of native American style graphics on the window glass of the Anchor Tavern, 1352 Pacific Ave., as well as a neon representation of the emblem for Rainier Beer. The Tavern was located in the former McCormack Bro. Department Store, 1348-56 Pacific Ave, in 1979. McCormack Bro. was located in the Baker-Dickson Building; constructed in 1911, Russell & Babcock, architects. The building was demolished in 2003.

ca. 1979. The gaily striped awning decorates the exterior of Tutor Craft Interiors at 1531 Market St. In 1979, a newly remodeled store had opened following a disastrous fire in Jan. of 1978. The business had opened in 1944 and specialized in custom draperies.

ca. 1979. Broken windows on the Commerce Street side (1520-22) of the 1519-21 Broadway St. building were the focus of this 1979 photograph. The structure was named the Siler Block in 1889 when it was built by W.O. Siler, based on a design by architect G.C. Clements. A second story, designed by architects Bullard & Hill, was added in 1916 and the structure was renamed the H.A. Strong building. The building was renovated in 1985 and later demolished to make way for the Convention Center.

ca. 1979. "Fidelity" is carved over the door of McCarver School, 2111 So. J St., circa 1979. The modified Gothic structure was designed by Hill & Mock, architects. It opened its doors November 2, 1925 as the city's third intermediate school; elementary classes were added in 1938 and the junior high portion was discontinued in 1968. The school was named for Tacoma pioneer and early school district director Morton Matthew McCarver.
