The following reception was at the bride's parents' home at 3808 No. 33rd St. The other men pictured are possibly Best Man William Gallagher and ushers Robert Gallagher, James McMenamin and Philip Brockert. The wedding was followed by a reception in the Guild Hall. The couple is shown dodging rice as they leave the reception. The bride wears a garnet suit, black hat and corsage of orchids. Doris E. Wharton and Sgt. Milton G. McAtee of Fort Lewis were married on February 1, 1942 in the loft of the YWCA with Dr. J. Renwick McCullough officiating. The bride, daughter of S.G. Wharton, was a graduate of Clover Park High School. Miss Wharton wore an ivory satin gown, princess style with a sweetheart neckline, and a full length train. Her attendants were dressed similarly and carried small bouquets of flowers. The bride later changed into a blue dress, black fur jacket and blue accessories for her wedding trip. Joyce Wells and Terry Wells were the flower girls and Andre Croskey, the ringbearer. The maid of honor, matron of honor and bridesmaids wore azalea-colored A-line gowns. They were: Dorothy Wells, Mrs. James Griffin, Margo Strickland, Wendy Strickland, Patricia Evans, Paulette Nunn and Ruby Nell. The groom was assisted by his best man, his brother Michael Taylor, and six ushers: Melvin Collins, Rodney Tanner, Joseph Murphy, James Griffin, John Asheley and Matthew Jones. Candlelighters were Brenda Wells and William Watkins. Mamie Elizabeth Strickland wed Rev. Richard Edward Taylor in front of approximately 250-300 guests. According to engagement information published in the April 18, 1965, News Tribune, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady A. Strickland. Rev. Taylor was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie P.
