36 members of the Adelphian Choir posed for a group portrait on January 9, 1974, in the University of Puget Sound's recital room inside Jacobson Hall. The choral group, founded in 1932, was composed of students from the University of Puget Sound. Each year the Adelphians would perform locally and often tour. Various Adelphian Choirs have performed in the United States, Canada and Europe. The current choir would be the guest singers at the free Tacoma Symphony Orchestra concert on February 13, 1974 at the Temple Theater. Pacific Lutheran College football team, players and coaches. Unidentified coach is believed to be Philip G. Strombo, who succeeded Cliff Olsen as the new director of athletics at PLC in the fall of 1942. Strombo, at 41, was a former North Dakota University player and had coached in North Dakota and Oregon.

The Independents at the College of Puget Sound were getting ready for their first big social of the year, a "Sadie Hawkins Day" dance on Saturday November 8th, 1941, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on 6th and Steele. The climax would be the selection and shotgun wedding of Li'l Abner and Daisy Mae. Candidates for the groom are, left, Jim Angus and Harris Martin; the tall gentleman is Larry Henderson, master of ceremonies and candidates for the not-so-blushing bride are Ruth Sonneman and Annabel Miller. On June 6, 1942, commencement exercises were held at Jones Hall on the campus of the College of Puget Sound. Eighty-nine degrees were being awarded, including an honorary degree of Doctor of Science in Government to Governor Arthur B. Langlie. He was pictured shaking hands at the exercises with an unidentified man. Rev. Stanley G. Logan was also awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity. (T. Times 6/6/1942, pg. 1)

C.P.S. Summer Ministers Class. The University of Puget Sound, known as the College of Puget Sound from 1914-1959, was established by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888. Its first location was in a rented building at 2102 So. I St. Its first permanent location was 602 No. Sprague Ave. The College first opened at 1500 No. Warner St. in September 1924.

A record 228 students graduated in the class of 1950 at Pacific Lutheran College. They pose on the steps of Old Main. Dr. Harry K Newburn, president of the University of Oregon, spoke on the subject of "The Uncommon Man". That could describe the person with a college diploma in 1950. On February 6, 1950, Pacific Lutheran College students gaily tossed their shoes off at the door to enjoy the Stocking Shuffle Dance in the gymnasium. Rhoda Young (right), head of the women's physical education department, was on hand to judge most holey, colorful and biggest pairs of socks. Among the finalists in the competition were Walter Masters, Raymond Green and Florence Brandstetter. The prize for the winners was, appropriately, three new pairs of socks. The new residence hall for women at the College of Puget Sound, circa March of 1939. The brick structure was erected in 1938, the school's fiftieth anniversary year. It was opened during the second semester January 30, 1939 and dedicated February 15, 1939. On the ground floor were a service room and large activity room, the main floor contained the lounge, office, dining room and kitchen, and the second and third floors were sleeping rooms for 40 students. College of Puget Sound Advanced Journalism class gets a front line view of the world of newspaper publishing in the office of veteran publisher Sydney Albert Perkins on November 22, 1939. The students spent an hour interviewing Mr. Perkins on opportunities in the field of journalism and methods of story development. Standing, left to right, are Tacoma Times columnist E.T. Short, students Betty Thralls, Mary Mladinov, James Clymont, Carl Lindgren, Virginia Marinoff, Mr. Perkins (seated) and Betty Cleary. Seated left are William Melton, Eleanor Weaver, Clarice Ross and Helen Gassaman. One topic of conversation was the many autographed photos of Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, Congressmen and national political figures on the walls, a souvenir of Perkins' days in Washington, D.C. where he served as private secretary to Senator Mark Hanna. Mr. Perkins had probably the finest collection of signed photographs in the country, including portraits of the most prominent men of the nation over the past two decades. (T.
