On August 31, 1936 two unidentified workmen delivered fifty new typewriters to the Central School building at 601 South 8th Street - just in time for the new school year, which began September 1st. The typewriters were ordered from Stationers, Inc. at 926 Pacific Avenue. The "new" Central School opened in 1913, and was used as a school building until 1968 when it was converted to the Districts administrative headquarters.

Chi Pi Sigma was a national professional chemical fraternity, for those students whose major interest lay in the field of chemistry. Longtime president of the College of Puget Sound, Dr. Edward H. Todd and his wife Florence pose for a March, 1936, photograph in front of packed bookcases located in their No. Alder Street home. Dr. Todd, a minister and scholar, became president in 1913. He succeeded in a campaign that raised one million dollars and laid the grounds for the school's permanent home at No. 15th & Warner. Stadium vs. Lincoln annual Thanksgiving Day football game, held on November 25, 1937 in the Stadium Bowl. The Lincoln High School marching band stands in "smoker's pipe" formation on the field; in the "bowl of the pipe" are the glee club and a capella choir blowing bubbles. Lincoln High School students mend and press clothes for needy children's Christmas gifts. In an annual tradition begun in 1922, the school will provide food, clothes, household goods and toys for needy Tacoma families in a drive sponsored by the Lincoln News. In 1937, the school has selected 66 families to play Santa to. Each home classroom has a basket to fill with food. In addition, a holiday dance was held with participants contributing toys or cash. William Hardie, the Lincoln High School track coach, posed with five of his track men in September of 1937. The Lincoln Abes track team had won the state track title three consecutive years. With six returning letterman on the 1937-38 team, coach Hardie was hoping to make it four in a row. Standing in the back row are, left to right, Hardie, Rankin, Wilcox and Sharp. ca. 1934. Brennen King, College of Puget Sound football player. Mr. King played right end position on the 1934-35 CPS team. The 6 '2" King was a graduate of Garfield High in Seattle. Hawthorne School 6A class photographed in June of 1927. The students are posed in front of their eastside school which was built in 1913 from a design by Heath and Gove. The school was named after author Nathaniel Hawthorne. It closed in 1963 and was later demolished. (WSHS)
