Mary Frances is the daughter of Cecil Cavanaugh, of Cavanaugh Lumber Co., and Weda Claire is the daughter of Doug Dykeman. The 35-feet-high, four-tiered reviewing stand for the 1936 Daffodil Parade on So. 10th Street & Pacific. The stand is covered with 200,000 bright yellow daffodils. The Stationers Inc. at 926 Pacific Avenue can be seen in the background. The picture windows have been cleared of displays to set up chairs for viewing the parade. Children dangle their feet from open third story windows as they wait for the parade to start. Those not having these lofty perches to view the parade have lined up several people deep on the ground. On April 18, 1936, Queen Helen Edgerton enjoys the parade from her throne in the base of the 35 foot daffodil "tower" that served as a reviewing stand for the Daffodil Parade. On either side of her are members of her court. At this time, the princesses did not wear matching dresses, so each member of the court is dressed differently with the wide brimmed hats being the only unifying element. The Princesses are, left to right, Esther Kaufman of Puyallup, Alice Margaret Woods of Tacoma, Helen Rockway of Sumner and Joy Lundrigan of Puyallup.

This Standard Oil truck is all decked out in flowers for a drive in the 1936 Daffodil Parade. It has even sprouted two giant daffodils on top like horns. The large fuel truck is covered with flowers and draped grasses.

The prize winning float in the Daffodil Parade, entered by the Puyallup and Tacoma Active Clubs. The float is a flower bedecked replica of a US destroyer, complete with swinging lifeboats and a rosy cheeked crew of little girls in nautical attire. The float is accompanied by a man dressed in a sailor's uniform. The float ship bore the number 110, the number of the Tacoma Sea Scout ship. (T. Times 4/20/1936, pg. 3)

Daffodil Parade float entry by KMO radio, a floral representation of a microphone with the call letters KMO. The float was probably an entry in the 1936 parade. Several patches of daffodils in the outer ring of the microphone are missing showing the chicken wire base.
1936 Daffodil Queen Helen Edgerton of Puyallup. In the early years, the queen alternated year to year between Puyallup and Sumner residents. The first queen from Tacoma was in 1956 and from Orting in 1962.
The Young Mens' Business Club entry in the 1936 Daffodil Parade was this flower covered replica of the bastions at the restored Fort Nisqually at Point Defiance. The restored Fort had opened in 1934. A sign on the float advertises the "Beaver Centennial" 1836-1936, a celebration to be held July 4, 1936.
The Rotary Club, a perennial entrant in the Daffodil Parade, entered this flower bedecked emblem of Rotary International in the 1936 parade. The word "Service" is emblazoned on the side of the float.

Kenworthy banquet for employees. Thomas W. Neilson, 35-year employee of Kenworthy Grain & Milling Co., was the honored guest at an informal banquet for company employees held in the Army-Navy Room of the Winthrop Hotel on May 23, 1936. Mr. Neilson, warehouse foreman, had plans to retire. Others in attendance included the branch managers throughout the state that represented the 43-year-old Tacoma business. Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Parade in Tacoma. A Marine unit stands at attention along a side street in Tacoma. They are in full dress uniform with gloves and rifles. The Riviera Theater, Rust Building and other 900 Pacific Avenue block buildings in background. The parade was being held in honor of Fleet Week. A military parade featuring the US Navy, Army and Marine Corps proceeds down the 900 block of Pacific Ave. Banners and flags strung across the street flap in a stiff breeze. Prominent on the right hand side of the picture are the Riviera Theatre at 906 Pacific Ave., Washington Hardware, at 924, and the Rust Building, at 950.
