The recent Willamette graduates were married in a double-ring ceremony by Rev. James W. Bertolin. The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. John Slikas of Tacoma, was dressed in a silk jersey and wore a small cap with a cluster of fresh flowers. She carried a bouquet of roses, stephanotis and lily-of-the-valley. Ride on muleback of Lt. Jack Murphy and his bride at Fort Lewis on April 12, 1941. Date is probably incorrect as Salt Lake City natives Lt. Jack M. Murphy and his bride wed on February 22, 1941. His fellow officers wanted to help celebrate but due to inclement weather, this unique method of mule riding was not accomplished until March 9th. The bride and groom are pictured above, each strapped and in wicker chairs aboard a patient mule. They were then led on quite a ride to the Officers Club for a reception. (T. The bride wore an ankle-length gown of imported egg-shell Irish linen lace, fashioned with a yoke of net ornamented with lace. Her pink shoulder-length veil was caught with orange blossoms to a satin-trimmed lace cap. She wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom, and carried orchids and stephanotis. Miss Anderson, daughter of the Carl Sixtus Andersons, became the wife of John Darrell Thompson, son of the John William Thompsons, on May 12, 1951 in a double ring ceremony. The bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace with tiers of flower-edged ruffles. The bodice was lace appliqued over satin and the costume was accented by elbow length lace gloves. The veil was waist length illusion attached to a pearl trimmed lace bonnet. The bouquet was of baby gardenias and lilly of the valley. The bridesmaids wore pale green gowns of net over taffeta and carried bouquets of purple and yellow. The reception was held in the church parlor and utilized the same lavender and yellow color scheme as the wedding. Mrs. Thompson attended Lincoln High School and the University of Washington.
