In August of 1942, the "Tillicum Chiefs" of Western State Hospital, who played in the Twilight League, had won 23 games and were in the playoffs for the circuit title. Much of the credit went to their pitcher Dick Smith who returned to Santa Clara University before the final playoff games. Lee Croft offered a little friendly advice on pins to his womens' bowling team and apparently it paid off. In January of 1943, his team was the first half title winning womens' team in the Eagle League and was on its way to a second half crown. When this photograph was taken on March 5, 1941, the calendar indicated that it was time for spring skiing, but it still looked a little nippy for the models' abbreviated attire. This frosty cheesecake was promoting the 1941 Silver Skis Race held on Mt. Rainier. The Silver Skis competition began in 1934, boosted by local skiing enthusiasts. The downhill course on Mount Rainier was dangerous and plagued with treacherous weather conditions. In 1941, the weather was very bad but the race was held with a few course adjustments. Bill Taylor and Shirley McDonald, both of Tacoma, won the men's and women's races. (T. Times 04/06/1941)

This was Lincoln High School's baseball team in 1938. The photograph is identical to A7195, image 1, except for the omission of printed school identification. 15 boys are in uniform, supplemented by two student managers with letterman sweaters and coach Eddie Schwarz. Coach Schwarz would lead his team in battle against the Stadium Tigers on April 21st where Stadium would defeat Lincoln 10-6 at Athletic Park. (T.Times 4-21-38, p. 15-names of team members listed)

The Lincoln Reserve football team is coached by Norm Mayer, varsity mentor, and Dan Lazare. This team is trained and coached with the varsity players, next year the reserve players hope to advance to the varsity team. Jerry Fodey, one of two goalies on the 1948-49 Tacoma Rockets, demonstrated his technigue for the cameras in December of 1948. The Rockets were in second place in the Pacific Coast Hockey League, seven points behind the league leading New Westminster Royals. In November they had won five straight games, the longest winning streak in club history. The Rockets played in the Tacoma Ice Palace at 3801 South Union Avenue. (T. Times, 1/2/49, p. 21).

The College of Puget Sound basketball team played against Pacific Lutheran College to determine the city's champions in December of 1947. College of Puget Sound beat Pacific Lutheran College with a score of 45 to 38. The game was well attended and was played at the State Armory. This was Bellarmine High School's varsity basketball team as photographed in the school's gym in December of 1947. The team was coached by Andy Slatt. Team members included Pat Olsen, Dick Jensen, Don Hermsen, Norm Smith and Otto Fink. The month of December would prove to be a successful one for the Lions as they would record victories on the road against Gonzaga (Prep), Shelton and defending state champs, Pasco. First Anniversary party for both papers, TAC, Bob Sanders. The Tacoma Athletic Commission held its Anniversary Party January 19, 1948. Plans for the evening included cocktails, buffet dinner, entertainment and dancing. This was the first anniversary of this popular club at its location at the Top of the Ocean. Howard R.
