William Hopping Sr. was co-owner of William D. Hopping and Company, an insurance company; he was also President of the Tacoma Savings and Loan Association. The recent Willamette graduates were married in a double-ring ceremony by Rev. James W. Bertolin. The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Strickland-Taylor wedding. Formal portrait of Mamie Elizabeth Strickland on her wedding day of October 23, 1965. She wed Rev. Richard Edward Taylor at the Allen A.M.E. Church, 1411 Yakima Ave. So. According to engagement information published in the April 18, 1965, News Tribune, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady A. Strickland. Rev. Taylor was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie P. Strickland-Taylor wedding. The large wedding party poses for an October 23, 1965, formal group portrait in the Allen A.M.E. Church. Joyce Wells and Terry Wells were the flower girls and Andre Croskey, the ringbearer. The maid of honor, matron of honor and bridesmaids wore azalea-colored A-line gowns. They were: Dorothy Wells, Mrs. James Griffin, Margo Strickland, Wendy Strickland, Patricia Evans, Paulette Nunn and Ruby Nell. The groom was assisted by his best man, his brother Michael Taylor, and six ushers: Melvin Collins, Rodney Tanner, Joseph Murphy, James Griffin, John Asheley and Matthew Jones. Candlelighters were Brenda Wells and William Watkins. Mamie Elizabeth Strickland wed Rev. Richard Edward Taylor in front of approximately 250-300 guests. There is an indication that this photo was displayed in the front window of the Richards studio with the caption "What can the poor guy do!" The young couple were the attendants at the June 11, 1955 wedding of Lois Marilyn Antilla and Paul John Putnam. The younger couple were the niece and nephew of the bride. Wedding picture of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence O. Lynn, owners of the C.O. Lynn Mortuary. Copy of the customers' print, no negative available. The First Lutheran Church of Tacoma was the scene of the nuptials June 14, 1905 that united Hilma Johnson of Tacoma and Clarence O. Lynn of Omaha, Nebraska. The couple was married in the church where they first met. When Mr. Lynn came west to establish himself, he was first employed by Conrad Hoska, funeral director. At the time of his marriage, Lynn went into business for himself, opening his own funeral home. In 1918, he built his own building at 717-19 Tacoma Ave. So. The twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Green, Marlene and Darlene Green, were married in a joint wedding ceremony at the Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave. S.W. in Lakewood, on August 11, 1954, their birthday. The two brides posed side-by-side in identical wedding gowns in front of the church altar. Both are wearing gowns heavily decorated in lace and satin covered with net. They appear to be carrying stephanotis bouquets and they have matching pearl necklaces. Marlene Green married Claude Flansburg while Darlene wed William Melville. Mickelina Retha Spadafore and Bertram Edward Corkill were married at the First Methodist Church (located on 423 South K Street) in evening ceremonies on July 31, 1948. Reverend M. A. Marcy officiated. The bride is the daughter of Josephine Jaconetty of Dutton, Montana and the groom is the son of Ida Corkill of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is wearing a beautiful gown of white satin with marquisette yoke, pointed long sleeves and a lace enhanced veil. The pearls around her neck were a gift from her bridegroom. Her bouquet was composed of orchids, gardenias and stephanotis. Mr. and Mrs. Corkill are pictured above in the act of cutting the three-tier wedding cake at the 100-guest reception held at Normanna Hall. Mickelina is a graduate of Lincoln High School and Bertram graduated from Vancouver Tech in British Columbia and attended the University of British Columbia. One of the largest weddings photographed by the Richards studio was the marriage of Virginia Lee (Wendy) Wagner to George Hunt Weyerhaeuser; the wedding took place in the gardens of "Lakewold", the Wagner estate.This wedding joined together two nationally known Tacoma families, both in the lumber and timber industries.
