Scope and content
- Front of triangle-shaped Seattle Hotel, with cars and people traveling on the streets in foreground. Built upon the site of the Occidental Hotel which burned down in Seattle's 1889 fire, the Seattle Hotel occupied a prominent postition in the Pioneer Square area. By 1914, the hotel had been converted into an office building, and it was demolished in 1961. The unpopular "sinking ship" parking garage that replaced it galvanized the local historic preservation community to have Pioneer Square registered as a National Historic District.
