Scope and content
- Ezra Meeker, Puyallup founder and Oregon Trail advocate, camping with his covered wagon and ox team in front of his mansion. Meeker crossed the Old Oregon Trail twice in the 1900's, marking the trail with monuments commemorating its original pioneers. This photo was taken upon the eve of his first trip. The Meeker Mansion is a 17-room house built in 1890 upon the insistence of Ezra Meeker's wife, Eliza Jane. She had lived with Meeker and raised their family in a small cabin for 26 years, and was ripe for a change. Ezra was not particularly fond of the house, and sold it immediately upon his wife's death in 1909. It is now a museum, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
