- View over trees of Washington State's Capitol Campus, situated on a hilltop in Olympia, Washington. In 1854, Olympia became the capitol of Washington Territory. The first capitol building was housed in an already existing structure in downtown Olympia. Now the seat of Washington government is located in this group of buildings constructed between 1912-1928. The domed building is the meeting place for the Washington State Legislature.
