ca. 1979. Auditorium Building, 1308-10 Fawcett Ave., circa 1979. The structure was designed by architect Roland Borhek and built in 1921. After a remodel in 1931 that combined the structure with the Ford Building next door, it was known as the Crescent Ballroom.

ca. 1979. Graphics of a native American hunting a buffalo adorned the outside of the J & M Tavern, 1344 Pacific Ave. The Tavern was located in the Cogswell & Meath Building built in 1908; Darmer & Cutting, Architects. The building was demolished around 1986 in a attempt to clean up lower Pacific Ave.

ca. 1979. The skyline in 1979 was adorned with the ornate turrets of the Samson Hotel, 1152-56 Fawcett Ave. It was built in 1889 and designed by F.A. Sexton, architect. The Hotel was converted to apartments in 1928. After several fires, the building was demolished in 1989. The site, in 2007, is a vacant lot.

ca. 1979. Carlton Hotel, circa 1979. The Carlton was built in 1909 by Anton Huth, from a design by architect C.A. Darmer. The sign on the side of the building advertises it as the Earle Hotel, a name used previously.

The long building on the right is the Jefferson House Nursing Home, Moorehavens Inc., at 1748 Jefferson. Lying further down the street on the right is the Swiss Hall, 1902-04 Jefferson Ave. Across the street from the Swiss Hall is the Tioga building, 1901 Jefferson Ave.

ca. 1979. Swiss Hall, 1902-04 Jefferson Ave., circa 1979. The Swiss Society opened their hall here in 1913. It was designed by Heath & Gove. Since 1993, it has been home to the current Swiss Tavern. The building lies on the outskirts of the University of Washington Tacoma campus.

ca. 1979. Crystal Palace Building, 1508-16 Jefferson Ave., circa 1979. The structure was built in 1889 from a design by F.S. Sexton. The building was originally brick with wooden store front, the stucco facade was added in the 1960's. The 1979 City Directory lists a Calvary Gospel Mission and Chapel at 1510-12 Jefferson Ave. The storefront in the picture is the Calvary Deliverance Chapel- House of Prayer.
