ca. 1906. A group of riders and several pack horses rest in a mountain meadow. A snow covered mountain rises in the background. The caption for this photograph was: "Meadow and Glacier - Goat Peaks". The mountain in the background is probably Mount Curtis Gilbert. This mountain was also known as "Gilbert Peak" and "Goat Rocks". The glacier near the top of the peak would be the Meade Glacier. This circa 1906 photograph may have been taken from Conrad Meadows on the South Fork Tieton River.

ca. 1906. A group of six campers sit close to one of two tents in a high mountain clearing in this circa 1906 photograph by Smith. There is snow on the side of the ridge immediately behind their camp. The original caption for this photograph was: "Camp Stormy - U.S.R.S. - Tieton". U.S.R.S. may stand for United States Ranger Station. This photograph was taken somewhere in the Snoqualmie National Forest.

ca. 1906. A lone climber looks down into a crevasse on Meade Glacier. The photograph, which was titled "Can't see bottom," was taken by a photographer named Smith circa 1906. The Meade Glacier is on Mount Curtis Gilbert in the Goat Rocks Wilderness area of the Snoqualmie National Forest.

Elwha - Goldie Canyon - Olympics Another lantern slide presumed to be by Grant Humes, this photograph show the canyon at the point where the Goldie River flows into the Elwha at the north ends of the Press valley. The log that stretches across the river is probably a log bridge.

Climbing Mt. Meany. The mountain, located in the Olympics, is named after University of Washington professor Edmond S. Meany. Among other notable accomplishments, he was president of the Mountaineers from 1908 to his death in 1935.

Bear Creek - Mt. Baker. Bear Creek is in the Mount Baker National Forest south of Mount Baker in northern Skagit County. Bear Creek feeds into Lake Shannon just past the Bear Creek Powerhouse. This photograph was taken by Asahel Curtis on June 15, 1908.

ca. 1909. Herd of Roosevelt elk in the Olympic Mountains. The Roosevelt elk, largest of North American elk and named after Theodore Roosevelt, had powerful bodies that allowed them to break through snowdrifts, flourish in high altitudes, and also swim. The dark coated elk were photographed amidst the snow and barren trees by Grant W. Humes circa 1909.

Mt. Baker series - The pack train. A line of pack horses are led up a trail on Mt. Baker at the beginning of the 1908 outing by the Mountaineers on Mount Baker. This is Boulder Glacier on Mt. Baker, part of the Mt. Baker series. According to Washington Place Names, it is on the southwest side of Mt. Baker and drains into the Baker River by Boulder Creek. Asahel Curtis photographed this view on July 20, 1908.
