Mt. Baker from Baker Lake. This photograph of Mt. Baker was taken by Asahel Curtis in June of 1908 shortly before the Second Mountaineers Outing. Baker Lake is to the east of Mount Baker in Whatcom County. It is almost directly south of Mt. Shuksan.

On the moraine - Mt. Baker, part of the Mt. Baker series that was taken on July 20, 1908. These mountaineers march in a row carrying sturdy staffs while on the moraine, an accumulation of earth and stone carried and finally deposited by a glacier.

Eastern slope of Mt. Baker. Asahel Curtis used this photograph in an article that he wrote for the Overland Monthly, April 1907, titled "Mazama's Ascent of Mount Baker." His caption for this photograph was, "Head of Roosevelt Glacier, northeast side of summit of Mount Baker." That would mean that the rock formation in this photograph is part of the "cockscomb."

Mt. Baker trip - Working out of crevasse on eastside of Mt. Baker On August 7, 1906, F.H. Kiser led five other climbers, including Asahel Curtis, in a desperate attempt to get to the top of Mount Baker from a northeast approach. This photograph shows five of the climbers working their way out of a crevasse.

The ice formation, known as a serac, was photographed by Asahel Curtis on Boulder Glacier, Mount Baker, during the 1908 Mountaineers Outing. A serac is a pointed mass or pinnacle of ice left standing among the crevasses of a glacier.

Mt. Baker trip - On the awy to Coleman Peak - Near Coleman Peak A long line of climbers from the 1906 Mazamas cross a snowfield on the way to Coleman Peak. F. H. Kiser had chosen a northeast approach to Mt. Baker for the Mazamas. Coleman Pinnacle is at the far end of Ptarmigan Ridge on the way up to the mountain.

This view of "The Brothers," a pair of prominent peaks located in the Olympic Mountains, was probably taken in January of 1909 by Asahel Curtis. They are named by George Davidson in honor of Arthur and Edward Fauntleroy, brothers of his soon-to-be wife, Ellinor Fauntleroy.

ca. 1906. A lone climber sits on a steep slope. Behind him can be seen the face of a glacier with a mountain stream pouring out of the base of the glacier. This photograph was captioned "Old Snowy Glacier - Source of the Tieton River." It is probably a photograph of the McCall Glacier which is at the head of the North Fork Tieton River on the east side of Old Snowy Mountain in the Snoqualmie National Forest.

ca. 1906. The identification on this image calls it "Old Snowy Glacier." Because it is in a sequence of photographs taken by Smith in the Goat Rock Wilderness area of the Snoqualmie National Forest, it is a good guess that this is the McCall Glacier on the east side of Old Snowy Mountain. The McCall Glacier is at the head of the North Fork Tieton River.

ca. 1906. A view of Mount Rainier from Yakima County looking northwest. This photograph was probably taken somewhere near the head of the South Fork Tieton River in the Snoqualmie National Forest. The caption on the lantern slide from with this image was taken said: "Mt. Rainier from East - Tieton". The field of snow on the mountain in the picture appears to be a glacier. Probably taken from the Goat Rocks.
