The Cannabis Corner, Episode 42

"In this episode of The Cannabis Corner, Lukas and Dig get the show started talking about garden zones and the shows new blog. In the news: The news segment looks at Federal cannabis news, a California bill to allow cannabis sales at farmers markets, cannabis tax revenue passing alcohol and tobacco tax receipts in Arizona and, lastly, the pair rap the news segment up with some discussion about ordering seeds online. Next, Lukas interviews Z and Zack of Harvest Direct Enterprises. Z and Zack share incites on the entourage effect, what’s on the cannabis chemistry horizon, how Harvest Direct preserves strain profiles in non-smokeable products and more. And finally, It’s a Bust takes a peak at a case out of California where a father and son pair are arrested for a second time for cannabis distribution."

The Cannabis Corner, Episode 45

In this episode of The Cannabis Corner, the show gets underway with some gardening talk about no-till-gardening. The news segment first discusses King County, WA expunging drug convictions and the county returning court costs and fines. Up next is Rhode Island and a legalization update followed by Texas A&M breeding hemp to survive extreme climates. Lastly, the duo relate a Delta 8 update. In this week's interview, Lukas talks to Ben Lightburn of Filament Health about an upcoming FDA approved study using Psilocin. They discuss the nature of psilocybin and Psilocin, Entheogenic (magic) mushroom's entourage effect, Filament's upcoming study at UCSF and more. And finally, It's a Bust looks at a large bust in Detroit of Canadian cannabis and wonders why Canadian cannabis is still coming over the border.

The Cannabis Corner, Episode 48

"This Corner opens with Lukas giving some thanks out to a local music event in Tacoma, Porchfest. The news starts in Washington with a discussion about Pasco, WA possibly over turning its cannabis bans. Then the two discuss; Athens, GA decriminalizing cannabis, Colorado sales numbers down and Canadians reimbursing Veterans for medical cannabis. Lukas and Dig talk to Dr. James MacRae about the state of pesticide testing in Washington, the WSLCB's new reporting system and some other Washington related topics. This week's IAB looks at a large bust in the Caribbean."

The Cannabis Corner, Episode 49

"On this episode Dig shares what's going on in his medical garden this year to get the show started. Lukas and Dig kick the news off with some thoughts on the upcoming election and which states may go legal and discuss a proposed cannabis museum in NYC. The news segment closes out with two stories about the drug war; a psychedelic church in Oakland suing police and Columbia's president raising the white flag on the drug war. For this week's interview, Lukas speaks with Grenco Science's CTO Michael Trzecieski . They talk about new trends in the vape industry, some highlights of Grenco's Elite 2 vaporizer, intellectual property and some things emerging in the vape space. "The news kicks off with a discussion about New York's new cannabis market and the state's emerging "gray market." Followed by a closer look at decriminalization efforts in Ireland and Pennsylvania' subsidizing low income seniors medical cannabis. Lastly, the pair share where Oregon's psilocybin legalization efforts stand after the November elections. This week The Cannabis Corner welcomes Gregory Foster of the Cannabis Observer. Gregory and Lukas discuss Washington cannabis topics like the Social Equity in Cannabis task Force, a possible THC limit bill this session in Olympia, traceability in Washington and other WA centered topics. Lukas reviews Grenco Science's new G-Pen Elite 2 dry cannabis vaporizer. Tune in to hear how the device works, his favorite features and "Can the Elite 2 make "clouds." IAB follows a case in Ohio and Pennsylvania where cannabis was found being shipped via rail from Mexico in New Ford Fusions."

Dixon, Patrick

Patrick Dixon is a retired teacher and commercial fisherman whose poems and photographs have been published in Oregon Coast, The Journal of Family Life, National Fisherman, Cirque and others. His chapter book, Arc of Visibility, won the 2015 Alabama State Poetry Society's annual Morris Memorial competition.

Eide, Chris

Together with teachers from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Chris Eide has led a statewide effort to improve the odds that young people from low-income families have access to schools. He is also an author, university lecturer, explorer, and poet.

Hargis, John

John Hargis is a Digital Media Specialist at Tacoma Public Library's StoryLab. There he works to inspire young talent to develop, network and release all forms of media including music, video, audio, audition reels, resumes and press kits to prospective agencies. He currently teaches drums and music production in Gig Harbor, WA. John is a hand-drum enthusiast and has performed as a classic rock and blues musician in the Puget Sound area for the past 15 years.

Smith, Dwayne

Dwayne is a regular participant in Tacoma Public Library's StoryLab, creating original beats and raps. When he heard about the listening project the day of the event, he created an original piece within two hours and recorded that same day.

Summer at Peace Youth Leadership Class

The Summer at Peace Youth Leadership Class decided to take on the issue around stereotyping in their schools. This team poem represents their response to the stereotyping that they have experienced in high school and reclaiming of their identity on their own terms. Since they come from high schools throughout Tacoma, we have identified the place where they gave voice to their identities: at Peace Community Center in Tacoma's Hilltop Neighborhood.

TDH

TDH is a member of 2012 and has spent most of his career giving a voice to justice through hip hop. He often uses elements of his own story to inspire others.

Olivas, Juanita

Oral history interview of Juanita Olivas, an unhoused neighbor living in Tacoma, conducted by dindria barrow on April 9, 2022. Juanita shares how she became homeless, how her faith has carried her through life, and why she does volunteer work. Juanita is 60 years young and plans on completing high school so that she can get a job as a medical insurance billing and coder. Juanita dreams of being “somebody that can help out with the community, always. I would love to have a really big apartment building that I could just take in all the homeless…just pour my heart out to ‘em, because people out there, you never know their story until you actually talk to them and I’ve met a lot of people that is so talented out there and so educated, but their story just breaks my heart.”

Morehead, Bernice

Oral history interview with Tacoma resident Bernice Morehead conducted by dindria barrow on August 16, 2022. In this interview, Bernice tells us that she was a born into a family of sharecroppers who descended from slaves forcibly brought to Mississippi. Bernice lived on a farm until she was 16 years of age who spoke the language of animals until she moved to Iowa and worked with her mother as a Domestic Engineer. Bernice describes how she enjoys a challenge such as running four marathons, learning to swim at 50 years of age, finishing a triathlon, driving from Iowa to Washington state with two children and a grandchild, then earning two college degrees. She has worked for the state, run her own business, been a substitute teacher, is a certified Life Coach and is now helping others at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Shelter. Bernice reminds us to dream of new challenges and to take pride in whatever you do.

Ranniger, Deborah

Oral history interview with Tacoma resident Deborah Ranniger conducted by dindria barrow on September 20, 2022. In this interview, Deborah tells us how the landscape of Tacoma with its evergreen color and specifically the sight of Mount Rainier made her decide to live here at 10 years old. Deborah tells her family’s story of fleeing from Eastern and Western Europe to escape persecution. Deborah shares her journey from Seattle and Kent to Tacoma based on the burgeoning art scene. Deborah has recently published a memoir about her father and his influence on her life called, “Against the Current: A Conscientious Objector During World War II and the Daughter He Inspired.”
