Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company was awarded the Army/Navy "E" award during a May 15, 1943 outdoor ceremony. The award was for excellence in the manufacture of chemicals vital to the war effort. A crowd was photographed seated outside the Penn Salt building with a stage erected in front and the Air Force band from McChord Field seated next to stage. Several people are seated on the stage.
