The Washington National Guard Armory at 715 So. 11th, built in 1908, was added to the Tacoma Historical register in 1976. The Pierce County Court House in the background was built in 1892, and was located at 1012 So. G Street. circa 1910.

Elaborate private homes in early Tacoma: House in upper left corner is located at 417 No. "E" St., upper right was at 509 No. Yakima but was demolished in 1959 to make room for the Vista Palms apartments. The house in the lower right is the "2nd Rust Mansion" at 521 No. Yakima. circa 1915.

The Tacoma Hotel, 913 "A" Street, opened in 1884. The 300 foot long, five story structure was made of red brick and stucco, with white stone trim. A spectacular fire on October 17, 1935 reduced it to ruins. circa 1909.

Ivy covered building at what is now known as Western State Hospital. Originally housed in abandoned Fort Steilacoom buildings, the institution has had many additions over the years at 8699 Steilacoom Blvd. SW. circa 1915.

Tacoma General Hospital, at 315 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, was originally the Fannie Paddock Hospital. Here is the original hospital built on this site in 1914, and the addition built behind it in 1926. circa 1929.
The original school at 246 St. Helens was built in 1875 and called the North School. Declared unsafe in 1885, it was replaced by the new Emerson school shown here in 1889. circa 1908.
