Virginia Dittman and Jack Wood were married in the Friends' church in front of 250 guests. Carol Blundell and Emmett Reed Miller were married August 18, 1951, at St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church. Carol is the daughter of Richard Archibald and Pearl H. Blundell. Emmett is the son of Ross O. and Anna F. Miller. Carol wore a gown of ivory satin with long sleeves, sheer yoke and fitted bodice. Appliques of Alencon lace provided detail at the shoulder line and the fitted satin peplum skirt over bouffant tulle extended into a circular train that was also appliqued with lace. Judith Shore and Merton Glant were married June 3, 1951, in the Army-Navy room at the Winthrop Hotel. Rabbi Bernard Rosenberg officiated at the ceremony. Judith was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murry Shore and Merton was the son of Mrs. and Mrs Samuel Glant. Both the bride and groom were graduates of the University of Washington. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina-length bouffant white organdy gown with pale pink pique flower appliques on the skirt. Launching the "Historic" at J.M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corporation. The new tuna clipper was built for Oliver Verissimo and Assoc. of San Diego. She was powered by a 615-hp Enterprise diesel, two 150-hp GM diesels, 120-kw auxiliaries and she had refrigeration capacity of 240 tons. Stinson Heating Company featured Rossoe Furnaces in their booth at the 1951 Home Show held at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. Lloyd J. Stinson and Grant A. Graham were partners in the business which installed, repaired and cleaned furnaces and oil burners. Rossoe models they carried included the Rossoe Economatic Floor Furnace and Rossoe Compact Models for basement or utility. They were located at 1907 South 56th Street.

Three unidentified employees of Western Furnaces, Inc. pose with the furnaces on display at the 1951 Home Show at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. Western Furnaces was founded in 1912. The company was the exclusive distributor for General Electric oil fired furnaces, air conditioning and heating equipment, and boilers for Southwest Washington. Tietz Construction Company's booth at the 1951 home show at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. A wall of photographs shows many of the options available for new homes with large, thermopane windows, dishwashers and disposals for the kitchen, living room-dining room combinations, and built-in wardrobes and wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms. Duratile's booth at the 1951 home show at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse featured Duratile steel wall tile for exterior and interior uses and modernfold doors. Helen Clarice McCrea and Russell L. Smith were married October 6, 1951, at First Lutheran Church. Helen is the daughter of Mrs. Mabel A. Mc Crea and G.R. McCrea. Russell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Smith. The bride wore a gown of white silk over embroidery sent to her from a friend in Japan. The dress was fashioned with a scalloped neckline, hoop skirt and court-length train. Her pearl choker was a gift of the bridegroom and she carried a Bible of white satin which had belonged to her mother and was topped with white orchids and stephanotis. Helen attended Lincoln High School and the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis and Russell attended Clover Park and was in the US Marine Corps. (TNT, 10/7/1951, p.D-4)

Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lock Carl Riehl and Donald is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jens A. Hoff, Astoria. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the College of Puget Sound, officiated at the ceremony. Nancy wore a Swiss organdy gown with a floral embroidered jacket topping a strapless gown of nylon marquisette. The full skirt extended over a hoop into a dance length train. Mr. and Mrs. Hoff established a home in Portland after August 27th. Military marching in formation during the May, 1951, Armed Forces Day parade. Spectators line the downtown streets to watch examples of America's military might pass by. In 1951, Armed Forces Day was only two years old, having been created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five military branches.

As shadows edge out into Pacific Avenue, they blend with the marching military units and vehicles during the 1951 Armed Forces Day parade. Everyone has paused, perhaps for the start of the parade. Honor guard is at front, followed by large groups of soldiers and other servicemen.

The Seaforth Highlanders from Vancouver, B.C., (lower center) provide pipe and drum entertainment for the crowds. Besides the various marching military units, jeeps and other vehicles were present.

Armed Forces Day was created in 1949, a single day set aside for festivities thanking our men in uniform for their duty to our country. During this 1951 Armed Forces Day parade, three units are seen as they prepare to turn from 9th Street onto Pacific Avenue. The Seaforth Highlanders from Vancouver, B.C., Canada's championship pipe and drum band, turn the corner while two military units follow. Vern's Sandwich Shop is seen on the corner.
