Tacoma High School (Stadium High School) Silver Anniversary Reunion for the Class of 1909, held at "Country Gardens." Ordered by Mrs. H. V. Davies. Posed with the 25th anniversary class are their children and grandchildren. The high school building at 111 No. E St. started life as a grand hotel but was never completed. It was converted to a high school after a 1904 bond issue. It opened its doors September 10, 1906 as Tacoma High School. The school was renamed Stadium High School in 1913.

Sherman School Kindergarten class posed in front of the school in June of 1934. The young scholars display their artwork and carry American flags. Sherman school was built at this location in 1891. It was demolished in 1953. (filed with Argentum)

Stadium High School Class of 1934 Graduation at the Armory. Instead of the now traditional cap and gown, the boys wear suits and ties and the girls wear floor length formal dresses and large corsages. The orchestra sits in folding chairs directly in front of the stage with parents and family members beyond. Stadium opened its doors as a high school in 1906; it is still in use today. The gothic spires of the French chateau look-alike at 111 No. "E" have become a Tacoma landmark.

ca. 1934. Afifi Shrine Parade circa 1934. The Shriners are shown marching in procession up So. 13th Street to Broadway. At the back of the picture is the Tacoma Railway & Power Co. at 1301 A St., built in 1899. The cable car tracks run down the center of So. 13th Street. A streetcar can be seen crossing 13th on Pacific Ave. The Shriners in their traditional garb appear to be marching up Pacific Ave to turn on 13th & proceed to Broadway. The Mecca Restaurant can be seen on the left at 1150-54 Commerce. Across the street from the Mecca is the tailoring business of John Davis with signage jutting out of the building. Mr. Davis was also in law enforcement. The sign for Knapp's Modern Business College (located at 1151 1/2 Broadway) can be seen at the roofline of the far left building. In addition to being a proficient horse woman, Miss Bryan lists her occupation in the 1934 City Directory as stenographer at Pacific Savings & Loan and her address as Thornewood. She was the only daughter of Thomas H. Bryan of Thornewood Lodge, master of the hounds.

The four women have long narrow poles on their shoulders, perhaps to be used in a game or to guide their horses. Iris Bryan, future Woodbrook Hunt Club master of foxhounds, is on the extreme left. Marguerite Bonnell is on the light colored horse with Catharine Strong at her side. The fourth woman is not identified.
ca. 1935. Two boys on horseback, ordered by Mrs. Harold Allen of the Woodbrook Hunt Club. The older boy on the right is Harold Jr. and younger is Arthur. Harold Allen was the president of the Tacoma Dredging Co. and the family resided at 615 No. 6th. The two boys, dressed in matching jackets that zip up the front, appear small astride full size horses.

ca. 1934. Play at College of Puget Sound. Twenty-seven people on stage, some dressed as reporters, some as police officers. One man lying on floor, either playing dead or wounded. The Dramatic Art Department's motto was "Development of Personality through Drama." The department gave more than 150 students the chance to appear before an audience in a wide variety of plays. The Tacoma Drama League had a full program of plays scheduled for the 1934-35 season. The first production was a revival of the old fashioned melodrama "The Streets of New York". In their effort to recreate the true atmosphere of an old time play, special scenery, costuming and lighting had to be designed and constructed. From 1933 through 1939 the Tacoma Little Theater productions were presented on the stage of the Slavonian Hall at 2306 No. 30th St. In 1940 they moved to their current home at 210-12 No. I St.

ca. 1934. Photograph is described in Richards' notes as "group at Rausch's Road House." However, associated pictures also show a sign on the building proclaiming that it is "Jay's Log Cabin, Dine & Dance." A group of people is seated in front of the log cabin. Group includes a young couple to the left of the seated row dressed alike in slacks, white shirts and sweaters and a woman in the standing row wearing a "Andre's Market" brown paper bag as a hat.

Members of the Tacoma Country and Golf Club reveled at a masquerade ball at the clubhouse on Halloween, 1934. In the center in kilts with wig askew was future Mayor of Tacoma Harry P. Cain. To the far left was his wife, Marjorie Cain, dressed as a Russian cossack. Cain was holding the leg of an unidentified French maid, as an unidentified aviator held that of his wife in this interesting picture. The unidentified cross dressing couple to the right smiled merrily at the camera.
