Two unidentified employees operated the new bottling machine, which automatically filled and capped each glass bottle with pure fresh milk, at the Tacoma Dairy in November of 1926. Founded in 1902, the dairy opened a new, modern plant at 1802 East 27th Street in the fall of 1926. The dairy's new bottling operation had a capacity of 3,000 gallons of milk and cream a day. Its eight delivery trucks carried nine loads of milk each on a daily schedule throughout the city. The Tacoma Dairy was taken over by Medosweet Dairies Inc. in the mid-1950s. (TDL 12/12/1926, pg. The company was located on the Tacoma Tideflats at 402 E. 11th St. It was known for its fine overstuffed furniture. The furniture company was located on the Tideflats, at the foot of the 11th Street Bridge, at 402 E. 11th St. The 1927 City Directory lists George Slyter as president, manager and secretary and W.D. Smith as vice president and treasurer. The company was noted for its manufacture of fine overstuffed furniture. They went out of business in 1933. (Argentum)

ca. 1927. Mrs. Ethel A. Adams posed in her new Whippet 4 coupe in front of the West Side Grocery Co., circa 1927. The new two passenger closed model of the Whippet Line was becoming very popular. ca. 1891. This portrait of Elisha P. Ferry, first Governor of Washington State, was taken circa 1891. On October 1, 1889, Washington voters ratifed the state's first constitution by a four to one majority. Republican Elisha P. Ferry (1825-1895), former lawyer and mayor, was elected governor. He served from 1889-1893. President Ulysses S. Grant had appointed Ferry governor of territorial Washington in 1872 and he was the only territorial governor to be appointed a second term. Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Murrey render first-aid to an unidentified young man who helped save some of their furnishings from the devastating fire that swept through Fife Corners on May 9, 1935. The 30 mph winds from the southwest carried burning shingles from one building to another in the small community, damaging nearly twenty homes and businesses. Residents fought the fires with old-fashioned bucket brigades and soaked gunny sacks as fire fighting equipment and a ready water supply were not available. Weary and stunned residents of Fife Corners check out the remnants of homes and businesses demolished by fire on May 9, 1935. The air is still thick with smoke as eight buildings were destroyed and many others damaged by the fire which was carried by strong winds. Although residents and volunteers tried their best, and managed to save or minimize damage to some buildings, their efforts were hampered by lack of water and fire fighting equipment. ca. 1935. The Tacoma Totem Pole at the foot of South 10th Street, near the south side of the original Tacoma Hotel, circa 1935. A painter is suspended from ropes halfway up the pole. Building by McKim, Mead and White, Architects, New York City. The Totem Pole was commissioned by W.F. Sheard and Chester Thorne and presented to the city in 1903.
