These four unidentified bathing beauties used a little cheesecake to help advertise the upcoming Pacific Air Exposition, scheduled for July 4th, 1947, at the "Seattle-Tacoma Airport" at Bow Lake (now Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.) The all-day airshow was sponsored by the Junior Chambers of Commerce of Tacoma and Seattle. The Exposition showcased Army and Navy aircraft, the new jet P-80 Shooting Stars, local hero Col. Ross Greening and a fleet of P-51 Mustangs, air acrobat Sammy Mason and the Hollywood Hawks, Wayne Lowell and the "Flying Hobo," Wally Blair. 15 to 20 thousand spectators jammed into the airport to view the show, crowding the grandstands built to accomodate 5,000. The seven-hour show went off without any mishaps to the delight of the enthusiastic spectators. Proceeds from the show went to the Army and Navy relief fund. Lt. Col. Tex Robert's pit crew surround race car 76, the "Gordy", and its driver Gordy Livingston. Robert's team made a "clean sweep" at the first meet of the racing season which opened at Athletic Park at the end of April. The "Southern Queen" is a refrigerated purse seiner, built and equipped specifically for tuna and sardine fishing. It is an all steel craft, 100 feet in length and has two twin six by six ice machines. It was bought by Joe Vilicich and A. K. Anderson and launched by Mrs. Van Camp of the Van Camp canneries. The boat was built by Tacoma Boat (Pacific Fisherman, January 1948, p. 182). TPL-8925

Deep Sea has trawl gear of the Icelandic type, with a high throat, designed to take free swimming fish of the cod and pollock type, in addition to bottom dwelling species such as King crabs, sole and flounders. The 140 foot trawler, built by Birchfield Boiler, Inc., will offer her owners, Deep Sea Trawlers, a complete fishing, packing and freezing plant. "Deep Sea" will be able to accommodate thirty two fishermen (Pacific Fisherman, July 1947, p. 40-41).

Deep Sea 140 foot long range trawler, it will be able to prepare King crabs and fish from the water to the consumer. The vessel will have the machinery needed to sort and clean the crab, steam cook, wash with fresh water, weigh and freeze and package in aluminum foil. "Deep Sea" was the first Pacific-built fishing and processing vessel of her type, the boat was built for Deep Sea Trawlers, Inc. (Pacific Fisherman, July 1947, p. 40-41).

Tacoma Boat was originally Strom & Dahl Boatbuilders, which was formed in 1936 by Arne Strom and Haldor A. Dahl. In 1938 the firm was incorporated as the Tacoma Boatbuilding Company. Tacoma Boat was well known and a leader in the fishing boat construction and built many minesweepers during World War II, they would later build more minesweepers for the United States Navy. Camp Fire Girls would learn about government offices, education and get a tour of the Capitol buildings on March 8, 1947. Camp Fire Girls was founded in 1910 and their slogan was "Be Friendly--Make Friends--Join Camp Fire Girls." Three unidentified Tacoma Camp Fire Girls were photographed on March 8, 1947 as they boarded a chartered North Coast Transportation bus to a day trip to Olympia. About 200 Camp Fire Girls and their chaperones were taking part in the special "Going Places" visit to the state capitol. The "Going Places" project was organized to celebrate the birthday of the Camp Fire Girls organization. The Olympia trip was planned to teach the girls about good government. The participants were scheduled to eat their bag lunches in the capitol cafeteria. (T. Times, 3/5/47, p. 16).

J. M. Martinac was founded in 1924, they had a large site where they had ship building operations, marine repair shop and a marine railway. They built fishing boats and work boats. Tacoma Boat continued to build and repair fishing boats for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, UNRRA, program. These boats were then sent to war torn countries such as China and Yugoslavia to help them restructure their fishing industries. View of UNRRA boats, "Fiorello H. In January of 1947, the Marine Engine and Machinery Corporation had just received a shipment of "Gray" and "Willard" motors in many sizes; as well as pumps, compressors, generators and other hard to get boat equipment. Pictured, left to right, were Charles Bevis (kneeling, checking the inventory), two unidentified men, Len Brunstadt (working the block and tackle), S.O. Julis and Carl Gehrke. Pacific Boat completed the "Sun Voyager" for Sun Harbor Packing Co. in San Diego, California. A trial run was completed last week and now the boat was ready to be launched. The vessel completed a trial run last week and was now ready for launching. Pacific Boat was also working on fishing vessels for the UNRRA program. TPL-8916

During a Control Line Model Airplane Meet at Tacoma Stadium Bowl, the rescue helicopter from McCord Field made a special appearance at the event. The type R-5A helicopter arrived and gracefully landed, impressing the large Tacoma crowd. The proficient helicopter can drop from any altitude straight down (if air density is favorable) to a spot of 60 square feet. The event was sponsored by the Tacoma Young Men's Business Club. On December 20, 1946, Loretta Boehm (later Griffin) of the Sanford-Nash, Inc. automobile dealership in Tacoma was sent to rouse Santa from a sound sleep so he could hand out the presents at the company's Christmas party. Santa had a comfortable bed in the convertible back seat of a 1946 Nash Ambassador on the dealership's showroom floor. After the party, Santa was allowed to resume his sleep, undisturbed, until Christmas eve. Sanford-Nash, Inc. was at 445-51 Tacoma Avenue South. Marine Research. A motor boat afloat at a dock. The craft has in inboard motor, a small windshield and three rows of seats. The boat is made of plywood. Plywood boats were found to be light and durable. Marine Research also well known as the manufacturer of 16 foot laminated inboard boats of one-piece keel, stem and shaft logs as well as a line of specially developed utiliyt trailers. Headed by M.G. Gunther, Marine Research also produced 18 foot commercial skiffs for tuna clippers. (T.Times, 12/25/1946, p.12)
