A model home was built outside the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse to be displayed during the 1952 Home Show. This beautifully decorated table at Jones Hall greeted the attendees of a preview showing on February 6, 1951 of Northwest artists on exhibit at the College of Puget Sound. The Tacoma Art League sponsored the exhibition. On the table were ti leaves, candelabras in black marble stands, brass coffee urn and assorted delicacies. From left in the photograph are: painter Mrs. Helen Everett, program chairman of the Tacoma Art League Mrs. Warren Tomlinson, Helen Feek, Tom Jensen and Maxine Parker. On January 5, 1951, three unidentified Tacoma Athletic Commission members posed with tennis stars (in white, left to right) Pancho Segura, Pauline Betz Addie, Gertrude "Gussie" Moran and Jack Kramer at the Bobby Riggs Professional Tennis Show held in the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. TAC and the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club cosponsored the two singles and the doubles match offered in the nationally touring show. The most exciting matches were those of Kramer, who was top of the amateur field, and Segura, the flashy Latin player from Ecuador with the two handed forehand and backhand returns. "Gorgeous Gussie" Moran, consistently rated in the top 10 of this country, was better known for her fashion statements such as her ruffled tennis undies. Addie, who had worn the national women's crown for four years, was also known as a sharp dresser and the two women consistently tried to out dress each other. A portion of the evenings returns were donated to the March of Dimes. (TNT 1/5/1951, pg. 15)

Mrs. Robert Hyde directs the attention of Mrs. Lucille and Dr. R. Franklin Thompson to the painting entitled "Carnival", on loan to the exhibition at the College of Puget Sound. Dr. Thompson was the president of C.P.S. He and his wife were on hand to attend the Tacoma Art League's preview on October 3, 1950, of an exhibit featuring the work of two local artists, Mrs.Vera Fraser and Nelson Sears. Dr. Thompson became President of C.P.S in 1942 and served as president for 30 years.(TNT 10-8-50, p. D-4)

The fourteen student members of the College of Puget Sound Choral Readers perform in recital in Jones Hall Auditorium. The group, under the direction of Martha Pearl Jones, performed a diversified program of ensemble verse readings. Members were Herb Stark, leader, Gloria Nelson, assistant leader, Doug Cullen, Ellen Davenport, Mary Kincheloe, Helen Pearson, Kaye Klopfenstein, Mel Gidley, William Gianelli, Dale Lee, David Stell, Fern McCullough, Claudia Zediker and Homer Johnson. The Second Golden Gloves Amateur Boxing Tournament, sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission, was held January 26th and 27th, 1950 at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. Several thousand boxing fans were treated to an action-laden program of bouts. The winner in each division received a sports jacket emblazoned with the T.A.C. Golden Gloves emblem. The second Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament was sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission and was held at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. Winners of the various titles received sports jackets with the T.A.C. Golden Gloves emblem and the runners-up were awarded gold miniature boxing gloves. The "Golden Boy" was awarded a wrist watch. The second Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament was sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission and was held at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. Teams entered from Seattle, West Seattle, Portland, Everett, Bremerton and Vancouver, B.C. Fort Lewis made formidable entries in all the weights from the fly-poundage to the heavyweights. Finished floor being applied over plywood sub floor at CPS Fieldhouse, DFPA. The floor was to be made of solid maple and measured 16,000 square feet. This building was dedicated in 1949 to those CPS students who died while serving in World War II. Bleachers are set above the floor on a concrete substructure.

On February 12, 1949, the art honorary fraternity of the College of Puget Sound, Alpha Rho Tau, threw their very first Beaux Arts Ball. The party was given in honor of the College's foreign students and drew students dressed in all sorts of lavish, exotic and creative costumes. A masked couple glided by in fanciful dress; she a column of black and white ruffles and he a rectangular knight. Other couples looked on from tables near a wall decorated with modern drawings. All of the revelers were unidentified with the exception of the woman directly left of the female dancer. She was Maxine Lister, the winner of the first prize for most original costume. Robert West, Lincoln High School art student, was awarded first place for his "Night Incandescent", he received a $300 full tuition waiver for CPS's art program. Robert Greuger, Stadium High School art student, received second place and a $150 partial tuition waiver. The contest was open to students from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana; out of 11 honorable mentions, 7 were awarded to Tacoma students. This photograph from November of 1948 shows James Anderson, a College of Puget Sound (UPS) student from Enumclaw, inspecting a splice he has just made in a 16 mm film. The college had just started a new visual education program to provide 16 mm films and slides for classroom presentations. They also had an opaque projector that could be used to project maps and pages from books or magazines. In the first two months of the program over 136,000 feet of film were shown on campus. College of Puget Sound's Field House is constructed with reinforced steel concrete, its floor will be made of solid maple and measure 16,000 square feet. Memorial Field House will be dedicated to the many men from the Army specialized training unit who studied at College of Puget Sound and were killed in "The Battle of the Bulge".
