Westinghouse Appliance Show at Winthrop Hotel, Westinghouse Electrical Supply Company, Betty Dahl. This portion of the Westinghouse display features radios and record players. Two console models, one in a dark wood cabinet and one in light wood, are seen on the left. Smaller players flank an easy chair; and portable players and radios are lined up on shelves. Westinghouse referred to the popularity of radio thrillers aired at that time in their advertisements for their radios, "It's a crime not to hear it" and "Listen to the evidence, your ear will prove it."

Construction of signs was one of the "1,000 uses of plywood" being promoted at the annual meeting of the Douglas Fir Plywood Association held in the Winthrop Hotel from June 8-9, 1948. Many signs produced by the Cole & Redmayne Company, the makers of "Vivid Tone" products, were on display. "For Sale" signs, "Carstens" wieners and ham, school zone signs with a little girl and "Susie Q," a policeman and many other plywood cutouts were featured in their sign display area. Boat show at Hotel Winthrop. The first major Tacoma Boat Show in several years was held the week of August 17-22, 1948 in the lobby of the Hotel Winthrop. Western Boatbuilding displayed their Torpedo Flyer speed boat, and Pleasurecraft brought a fully rigged sailing dingy with a 19-foot mast. There were several models of boats on display including a cabin cruser built by Western Boat along with Chinese sampans and junks.

On March 2, 1937, the Tacoma Times Spring Fashion section hit the newstands, featuring two couples modeling the latest in suits and coats from Klopfenstein's, Inc. Gathered around the piano at the Winthrop Hotel were Nancy Hawks in a classic Rothmoor coat, Don Baker in a Hart-Schaffner suit and Irene Tollefson, also in Rothmoor. On March 2, 1937, the Tacoma Times ran their Spring Fashion section, featuring two couples modeling the newest styles of suits and coats from Klopfenstein's Inc. Pictured left to right at the Winthrop Hotel were Nancy Hawks, of Dallas Texas, in a classic Rothmoor coat, Don Baker in a Hart-Schaffner suit, Irene Tollefson in Rothmoor and Vic Vine in Hart Schaffner. More than 600 members of the Washington State Junior Chamber of Commerce attended the state convention held in Tacoma at the Winthrop Hotel. The Junior Chamber of Commerce would be electing new officers for this year; and they designated Spokane as next year's site for the state convention. The convention consisted of several meetings and programs and would wrap up with a Saturday night banquet at the Top of the Ocean restaurant. Buick dealers and salesmen of Southwest Washington previewed the new Buick Special at the Mueller-Harkins Motor Company. Hotel Winthrop was inviting all of Tacoma to join them in the grand opening celebration for the new Trader Vic's Sabre Room. Trader Vic is an internationally known restaurateur, and he has now brought his world famous menu items to Tacoma. The interior of the Sabre Room is modeled after an authentic old English tap room, with figured red carpet, copper bowl lamps, the walls give the impression of aged plaster in a driftwood color. Trader Vic and his wife will host the grand opening celebration.

Holiday-at-Home was the theme of the Capital District of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs' 1950 Christmas Show at the Hotel Winthrop. The show included examples of table arrangements. Proceeds from the nominal admission provided funds for scholarships at the University of Washington and Washington State University as well as additions to the growing fund for a garden center building for Tacoma. An estimated 500 automobile dealers and their wives were assembling on June 1, 1951 for the annual convention of the Washington State Auto Dealers Association at the Winthrop Hotel. The convention began on Thursday with a golf tournament and an evening dinner and entertainment. During Friday's session M.R. Darlington, Jr., from the Inter-Industry Highway Safety committee spoke on "The Dealer's Stake in Highway Transportation", followed by a forum on state laws and regulations. Dealers were supplying driver training cars to 5,700 high schools, 125 of them in Washington state. The session concluded on Sunday. (TNT, 6/1/1951, p.C-7)
