In November of 1947, Stationers women's bowling team lined up for a group photo at the Broadway Alleys (739 1/2 Broadway), modeling their matching bowling uniforms- plaid skirts and white blouses with their names on the left side. Left to right were Tiny, Doris, Pat, Nettie and May. The shirts were set off by a plaid tie at the neck. Stationers Inc. sold office and school supplies, business equipment, office furniture, typewriters and mimeographs. C. H. Armstrong was President and J. F. Wilhelmi was Vice President and Treasurer. The company had both women's and men's bowling teams.

Permanente was is full operation in Tacoma within the first month of operations, this helped make the company one of the payroll builders in the city. Permanente and Kaiser were well respected businesses throughout American industry. This close up of halfback Otto Fink, in his battered leather helmet, was taken just before the September 1947 Grid-Go-Round football game sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission. Otto Fink, a letterman at Bellarmine, had been on both the all-Northwest Catholic team and the all-City team in 1946. As a returning senior, he helped the Bellarmine Lions defeat Lincoln to win first place in the Grid-Go-Round. This unidentified Tacoma Tigers "bat person" was all ready for the 1949 season opener scheduled for Friday April 22. Unfortunately, it rained. The first game of the season was not played until Sunday the 24th. On that day the Tigers faced the Salem Senators in a double header. Mr. Frank Walters, President of the Tacoma Athletic Commission, and Mrs. Walters posed with a publicity poster for the organization's 4th annual birthday party to be held at the club's headquarters at the Top of the Ocean on February 20, 1950. The party celebrated four years of active promotion of the city's athletic programs. The TAC was unique in the U.S. Organized as the Tacoma War Athletic Commission in 1942, it raised funds for athletic equipment for the thousands of US servicemen stationed in the Pacific Islands. Equipment was sent to fighting forces from Alaska to Australia. Following the end of the war, the group directed its policies to the civic and athletic betterment of Tacoma, particularly in the support of sports activities for youth. Four hundred members and guests of TAC attended the annual dinner and program on St. Patrick's Day. Diners had a choice of prawns or roast beef, with each plate adorned with two fresh rainbow trout.

On August 29, 1948, the Tacoma Athletic Commission (TAC) sponsored their second annual water show in Commencement Bay, in front of the TAC headquarters at the Top of the Ocean. Spectators lined the decks of the restaurant and the Old Town dock to watch the free water skiing show. Boats also formed a rectangle around the area where the skiers performed. The barge in the center of the picture was probably used as a staging area for the skiers. Some of the skiers from the Seattle Skiquatic Follies can be seen behind the speeding boat left. The show ran from 4-6pm.

This was the last game prior to the start of the Evergreen Conference season. The highly favored San Jose came from behind to beat the Loggers 20-7. New grandstand at Fife High School, Fife Hi, Mr. Vioson. The new stands at Fife Memorial field were dedicated September 23, 1948, by a football game between the Fife Trojans and the Clover Park Warriors. Tacoma Open Golf Tournament at Fircrest, Tacoma Athletic Commission, Bob Sanders. In 1948, Tacoma had two public high schools; and for many years on every Thanksgiving Day the cross town rivals Stadium and Lincoln met for an epic football battle. The gridiron battle was intersected by a halftime show featuring competitive spectacular performances by girl marching units and the schools' marching bands. Pictured, left to right, were Stadium High School's majorettes: Betty Johnston, Pat Mason, Rosemary Martenson, Joan Mason, Dolores Dessen and five year old Suzanne Ramstad. The Ice Arena at 38th and Union was owned by Sam Bergesen and Fred Urban and was home to both the Tacoma Rockets and the Tacoma Figure Skating Club. Tacoma Athletic Commission, Bob Sanders. The Tacoma Athletic Commission honored two of Tacoma's sports heroes October 28, 1948. Bob Martin, left, and Marv Rickert, center, are shown with Howard R. Smith, president of the Tacoma Athletic Commission. They each received the newly created Tacoma Athletic Commission award of merit, emblem, and cigarette lighter as well as having their photographs hanging at TAC's Hall of Fame. Martin won a gold medal in the 1948 Olympic games held in London as a member of the U.S. rowing team in the four-oared shell competition. Rickert played outfield in the 1948 World Series for Boston. Floyd (Lefty) Isekite, one of the great southpaws of the Western International League, demonstrates a pitching grip for Clarence Stave. Stave, peering over his sunglasses, was a retired umpire.
