Three unidentified men unload milk cans from a Garford truck onto the receiving platform at the Tacoma Dairy's new, modern building at 1802 East 27th Street in November of 1926. The milk entered the building at the receiving platform, passed through the various dairying processes, and came out on the opposite side of the building bottled and ready for delivery. The Tacoma Dairy began business in 1902. They moved to 1654 East 27th Street in 1904. Their new $50,000 plant,virtually across the street from their old building, had a concrete floor with sanitary drains and modern plumbing. It was equipped with spray bath pasteurizers, automatic bottle fillers, a 50-gallon ice cream freezer, a large cheese vat and a glass-lined buttermilk bath. It was taken over by Medosweet Dairies, Inc. in 1957; in 1960 Medosweet was bought out by Foremost Foods. (filed with Argentum)

In November of 1926, the Stadium High School Tigers practice making a goal the hard way, as they try to push a brand new Nash Six Roadster with a football balanced on top. They found the Nash, with its brakes set, hard to budge. The first string Tigers are, left to right, Ned Simpson, "Red" Goble, Mel Black, Paul Anderson (at wheel), Glen Lawson, George Tibbets, Earm Hayden, Les Yansen, Jim DuPree, Bill Simpson, Alvin Shenckell and Joe Hansen. Residence of A.B. Gehri at Lake Steilacoom, Silas E. Nelsen, Architect, 1926. Large two-story brick and wood home with brick patio on right. Lake visible behind patio. The English cottage style home contained a 16x 26 foot living room with a huge fireplace. Also on the first floor were a dining alcove, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs were two bedrooms, one of which was 16 x 20 and had two large closets and a fireplace, and a sleeping porch. All floors were hardwood. The large brick terrace faced off the living room. Major J.E. Mathews, one of the founders of the Woodbrook Hunt Club, was photographed in December of 1926 mounted on a horse at the Woodbrook Hunt Stables. Major Mathews, a native of Victoria B.C., came to Tacoma in 1924 and opened his first riding academy at that time. As the Academy grew, he purchased 15 acres on Pacific Highway just outside of the city limits, believed to be across the street from the current B&I location, where he and Capt. W.C. Proby operated the Mathews Riding Academy. In 1926, assisted by T.H. Bryan, the Irish manager of Thornewood Estates and a hunt fanatic, he helped form the Woodbrook Hunt Club. As the city grew around his acreage, he purchased property south of the Army reservation, now McChord Air Force Base, in 1929 and moved his riding stable there. He offered the Hunt Club a two room shack on the property, which became their first clubhouse. (TDL 5/9/1926; TSL 6/27/1938; TNT 6/6/1976) (WSHS)

The Biltmore apartments were located at 801-07 No. "I" St. Although built in 1889 by George Sumner, they were not named "Biltmore" until 1926. The building was designed by F.A. Sexton. 9A Class, Franklin B. Gault School, Jan. 1927 Franklin B. Gault intermediate school opened in February of 1926. The school was designed by Hill & Mock. It was intended to serve Tacoma's East Side. It was named after Dr. Gault, superintendent of Tacoma's schools from 1888-1892. The school, with additions, is still in use in 2006. (WSHS)
