ca. 1979. View from Commerce St. side of the 900 Block of Commerce. The 10th Street Escalade can be seen leading from Commerce to Broadway. The Escalade housed a "moving sidewalk." The system, built in the early sixties, was designed to carry shoppers from Pacific to Commerce to Broadway. It was discontinued in 1983. The Pythian Temple can be seen clearly at 924-26 Broadway. The building on the right is the Commerce side of the Pantages Theater.

ca. 1979. A pedestrian shields themselves from the drizzle with an umbrella as they cross 12th St. at the intersection of 12th & Pacific Ave., heading toward the Tacoma Art Museum on the corner, at 1123 Pacific Ave. The 1921 structure, designed by Sutton, Whitney & Dugan architects, had formerly housed the National Bank of Washington. The Art Museum left in 2003 for its new modern home and the building has had a succession of owners.

Graphics of a native American hunting a buffalo adorned the outside of the J & M Tavern, 1344 Pacific Ave. The Tavern was located in the Cogswell & Meath Building built in 1908; Darmer & Cutting, Architects. The building was demolished around 1986 in a attempt to clean up lower Pacific Ave.
