ca. 1937. Stadium High School Girls' Marching Unit, the Tigerannas, ca. 1937. The Tigerannas were formed in 1937 to march with the Stadium Band, providing a little extra color to performances. They were the brainchild of R.C. Fussell, Stadium Instrumental director. The 45 girls were photographed standing in wing formation. Their uniforms are short, shiny dresses in blue and gold with matching Cossack boots and pillbox style hats. (T.Times 10/15/1937, pg. 8) (WSHS)

Young men from the College of Puget Sound razz a fellow classmate during the first annual C.P.S. picnic held on April 28, 1938. Classes were dismissed early and students poured out on to the grounds to enjoy the annual freshman vs. sophomore tug-of-war, as well as two hours of games. Following a luncheon served by SPURS, the women's service organization, there was a mass community sing and two hours of dancing. (T. Times 4/29/1938, p. 1).

A ground breaking ceremony for new women's dormitory at the College of Puget Sound was held on February 16, 1938. A large crowd of students and reporters gather in the open field in anticipation of the event. One year later in February of 1939, Anderson Hall was dedicated. (T.Times, 2/16/1938, p. 1)

Times in conjunction with the investigation into the kidnapping of George Hunt Weyerhaeuser. On May 24, 1935, George was kidnapped near noon from the grounds of Annie Wright. He had left his school, Lowell Elementary, and walked to meet his sister Ann at the seminary intending to ride home with her for lunch. The Weyerhaeusers were informed at around 3 p.m. that their son was missing. A ransom note, demanding $200,000 arrived around 6:30pm. that evening. (T. In June of 1935, some of Annie Wright Seminary's earliest alumnae returned to the campus to help celebrate the school's 50th anniversary. The girls school opened in September of 1884 at 611 Division Ave. and these ladies were some of the first students. As a part of the anniversary celebration, they took part in a seminary pageant, modeling outfits from that opening year. Pictured seated are, left to right, Mrs. W.H. ca. 1952. The cornerstone was laid in February, 1924, for Jones Hall on the College of Puget Sound campus. The building was designed by architects Sutton, Whitney and Dugan, who later designed several other campus structures. View of ivy-covered Jones Hall showing exterior and main entrance, the first building constructed on the college's North 15th and Warner site. The campus was opened in September, 1924. The school was known as the College of Puget Sound until 1960 when it was renamed the University of Puget Sound. TPL-8185

Stanley School 6A Class in June of 1933. The spacious school was built in 1925 and was large enough to accomodate the student body for 30 years; additions were added in 1955, 1967 and 1973. In 1983, the main portion of the school was closed, declared unsafe in case of earthquake. (filed with Argentum)

Gault Intermediate (Junior High) School, 9A Class portrait taken in front of school. Gault opened for classes in 1926. It was designed by Hill & Mock, architects. The school was named in honor of Dr. Franklin B. Gault, superintendent of Tacoma public schools from 1888- 1892. It is still in use today, with additions made in 1942, 1953, 1974 and 1979.

The students attending Custer School, 7700 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood, posed for a school picture with their teacher Mabel Justin in front of their one-year-old building in October of 1933. The first Custer School, named after Lesour Custer, was built in the early 1890s on land donated by the Knoxhum family. In 1932, the old school was torn down and this new, two room school house was built. As the Clover Park School District grew, another newer, and bigger Custer school was built in 1953; this 1932 building, also called the "Little Red School House," was not demolished and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The young lad with the tie in front of Mrs. Justin is her son. According to Mrs. Justin's grandson, she made her son wear the tie for this occasion,

Dash Point School, first through third grades; taken in April of 1934. Dash Point closed as a public school in 1993. It was added to the state's registry of historic buildings in 1996. (Argentum)

Brown's Point School, Grades 1, 2 and 3 with their teacher in April of 1934. Browns Point School was opened in a portable in 1918 with one teacher, Martha Floberg, teaching grades one through eight. The exact address is unknown, visitors were advised to take the steamer Veronica at the Municipal Dock in order to get to the school. After much controversy, the school was closed in 1938, with Browns Point residents holding a solemn funeral service in its honor. Students attended school in other areas until their new school was built in 1952. (Argentum) (Olsen: For the Record, p. 113)

Dr. Edward H. Todd, president of the College of Puget Sound, sits at his roll top desk studying papers. Dr. Todd was the President of CPS for 29 years, from 1913- 1942. The men's dormitory was named after Dr. Todd when it was built in 1948.

ca. 1927. College of Puget Sound Football, first team, circa 1927. Twenty-six players and two coaches sitting on bleachers. In 1927, the College of Puget Sound had only one athletic director and he coached all the sports teams. Clyde Wesley Hubbard was new, having arrived at the college in 1926, but he pushed his team to finish second in the conference. He was assisted by former Logger star Lynn Wright and A.A. Denman.
