Tacoma Seed Company's exhibit booth at the spring flower show, part of the Daffodil Festival, at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse March 31- April 2, 1950. The booth displayed gardening products by Miller Products Co. of Portland, Oregon, including insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides and weed killers. The display also featured Scotts Lawn and Vigoro plant food, as well as manual push lawn mowers. The show included commercial exhibits such as this one and competitive horticulture and flower arranging exhibits. Both garden club members and the general public were invited to compete for the blue ribbons. A profusion of spring flowers decorated the fieldhouse and floral wall hangings were prepared by the garden clubs. Entertainment was supplied by local choirs and bands. Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Kirby Co. of Tacoma, 3521 6th Ave., electric vacuum cleaner sales and service. The booth features floor polishing equipment and products as well as vacuums. Prominently displayed is the Kirby sanitation system that has eight complete units: demother, suds sprayer, mattress cleaner, rug cleaner, floor duster, floor polisher and "handi butler." A drawing was held to give away a free Kirby. The company persuaded home show goers to purchase by telling them that "your home deserves a Kirby."

Washington Gas and Electric Co.'s booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring natural gas appliances. Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show by Rossoe Manufacturing, makers of the Rossoe pressure burner floor furnace. The Rossoe model was a diesel oil burning furnance, advertised as "economatic", offering low cost heating. Cut aways show the inner workings of the furnace, important for the more technically advanced home owners.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Zingler Electric Co., 1112 Pacific Ave. The Home Show took place March 21-26, 1950 at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. This shot shows the latest in electric appliances- cabinet style sewing machines, an automatic wringer washer, new ranges and Frigidaire refrigerators. The electric sewing machine retailed for $89.95 at Zingler, $9 down and $5 per month.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring natural gas appliances, such as ranges, hot water heaters, and space heaters, distributed by Home Gas Co, 140th and Pacific Ave. in Tacoma. The exhibit also sponsored a natural gas cooking demonstration, using propane, on Wedgewood and Tappan ranges of "biskit mix" biscuits topped with "Marva-Lishus" raspberry syrup, with samples provided for hungry show attendees. Raspberry syrup was provided by the Farmers Union Berry Coop of Puyallup.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring Heatlox heatcolumn- an oil burning pressure type furnace. Heatlox Furnaces Inc. was located in Tacoma at 4320 So. Tacoma Way. A new product in 1950, the heatcolumn was advertised as " The talk of the town." The FHA approved furnace had combustion chamber housing with double wall construction, demonstrated by the cutouts in the display model. The furnace also had a Brundage blower unit with replaceable filters, Honeywell controls, ventilated air spaces and an extra heavy gauge heat exchanger for long life. It sold for $549.00 installed, with convenient monthly payments of $14.95.

The fourteen student members of the College of Puget Sound Choral Readers perform in recital in Jones Hall Auditorium. The group, under the direction of Martha Pearl Jones, performed a diversified program of ensemble verse readings. Members were Herb Stark, leader, Gloria Nelson, assistant leader, Doug Cullen, Ellen Davenport, Mary Kincheloe, Helen Pearson, Kaye Klopfenstein, Mel Gidley, William Gianelli, Dale Lee, David Stell, Fern McCullough, Claudia Zediker and Homer Johnson. This beautifully decorated table at Jones Hall greeted the attendees of a preview showing on February 6, 1951 of Northwest artists on exhibit at the College of Puget Sound. The Tacoma Art League sponsored the exhibition. On the table were ti leaves, candelabras in black marble stands, brass coffee urn and assorted delicacies. From left in the photograph are: painter Mrs. Helen Everett, program chairman of the Tacoma Art League Mrs. Warren Tomlinson, Helen Feek, Tom Jensen and Maxine Parker. On January 5, 1951, three unidentified Tacoma Athletic Commission members posed with tennis stars (in white, left to right) Pancho Segura, Pauline Betz Addie, Gertrude "Gussie" Moran and Jack Kramer at the Bobby Riggs Professional Tennis Show held in the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. TAC and the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club cosponsored the two singles and the doubles match offered in the nationally touring show. The most exciting matches were those of Kramer, who was top of the amateur field, and Segura, the flashy Latin player from Ecuador with the two handed forehand and backhand returns. "Gorgeous Gussie" Moran, consistently rated in the top 10 of this country, was better known for her fashion statements such as her ruffled tennis undies. Addie, who had worn the national women's crown for four years, was also known as a sharp dresser and the two women consistently tried to out dress each other. Mrs. Robert Hyde directs the attention of Mrs. Lucille and Dr. R. Franklin Thompson to the painting entitled "Carnival", on loan to the exhibition at the College of Puget Sound. Dr. Thompson was the president of C.P.S. He and his wife were on hand to attend the Tacoma Art League's preview on October 3, 1950, of an exhibit featuring the work of two local artists, Mrs.Vera Fraser and Nelson Sears. Dr. Thompson became President of C.P.S in 1942 and served as president for 30 years.(TNT 10-8-50, p. D-4)

Large crowds fill the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse at the start of the Greater Tacoma Gospel Crusade on March 16, 1952. Gov. Arthur B. Langlie officially welcomed the crusade to Tacoma; city council members were also in attendance. The crusade was sponsored by 50+ churches of varying denominations with Rev. Ralph Erickson as head of the executive committee. Merv Rosell, a 39-year-old California evangelist, was the featured speaker; he is a traveling evangelist who spoke to over a million people the previous year. He was accompanied by Hilding Halvarson, song evangelist, who directed the crusade music and Howard and Ada Skinner of Michigan, noted organists and singers. Interior view of C.P.S. fieldhouse during gospel crusade. Large crowds attended the opening rally of the Greater Tacoma Gospel Crusade on March 16, 1952, held at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. 39-year-old California evangelist Merv Rosell was the featured speaker; he had spoken to over a million people during the past year. Rosell, a close friend of Billy Graham, had drawn thousands to his recent crusades in Kansas City and Des Moines. The crusade was sponsored by over 50 churches of different denominations, headed by Rev. Ralph Erickson's executive committee. Gov. Arthur B. Langlie gave the official welcome and Tacoma city council members were also in attendance. The crusade was scheduled to run for two weeks. (TNT 3-16-52, B-2)

College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?". Stinson Heating Company featured Rossoe Furnaces in their booth at the 1951 Home Show held at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. Lloyd J. Stinson and Grant A. Graham were partners in the business which installed, repaired and cleaned furnaces and oil burners. Rossoe models they carried included the Rossoe Economatic Floor Furnace and Rossoe Compact Models for basement or utility. They were located at 1907 South 56th Street.

Three unidentified employees of Western Furnaces, Inc. pose with the furnaces on display at the 1951 Home Show at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. Western Furnaces was founded in 1912. The company was the exclusive distributor for General Electric oil fired furnaces, air conditioning and heating equipment, and boilers for Southwest Washington. They maintained one of the largest oil burner service departments in Tacoma and had a fleet of 15 trucks. (TNT, 7/8/1949, p.3)

Tietz Construction Company's booth at the 1951 home show at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. A wall of photographs shows many of the options available for new homes with large, thermopane windows, dishwashers and disposals for the kitchen, living room-dining room combinations, and built-in wardrobes and wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms. The living room of the "Tacoman," the model home built adjoining the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse for the fourth annual Tacoma Home Show. The living area measured 380 square feet. The main entrance into the home opened into the living area. A section of the living area could be closed off with folding doors, to be used as a den or an additional bedroom.
