There would be 163 candidates for degrees at C.P.S.'s 67th Commencement held on June 5, 1955. Governor Langlie's topic would be "Putting Meaning into Life." Cheerleading camp. About 90 cheerleaders gathered at the University of Puget Sound in mid-July of 1969 for several days of cheerleading camp. Wearing their respective school cheer outfits, the junior high and high school pepsters hailing from Washington and Idaho posed in front of the university's music building. New science complex at the University of Puget Sound. After more than two years of construction, the new science building, named in honor of longtime U.P.S. president R. Franklin Thompson, was dedicated in April, 1968. The $4,000,000 science complex was the largest building project in the school's (then) 80-year history. It was designed by Nelson, Karona & Zeigler, architects, and built by McDonald Bldg. Co. View of U-shaped, three story Thompson Hall facing Union Ave., shows off the Tudor-Gothic brick architecture. A circular fountain, 74-feet in diameter, lay in the middle of the complex. The fountain would become the scene in the coming years of much illicit wading, dunkings and pranks. Jones Hall, framed by a brick archway, on the campus of the College of Puget Sound. This view of the main building on the north end school was taken on December 27, 1929. Designed by the architectural firm of Sutton, Whitney & Dugan, it was the first building completed on the new campus of the College of Puget Sound in 1924. Funding for the stately brick building was provided by Mrs. Charles H. Jones who gifted the college $200,000 on her 78th birthday. The hall is named after her late husband, a prominent lumberman. Mount Rainier (then called Mt. Tacoma by locals) has been superimposed in this February, 1930, photograph which featured the Science Hall located on the College of Puget Sound campus. May Day celebrations at the College of Puget Sound. Jones Hall was the site of the annual May Festival, 1931 honoring the mothers of College of Puget Sound students. May Day Queen Lillian Boyd is pictured at center accompanied by Fred LePenske. Harry Brown and Julius Coplan were heralds announcing the arrival of the queen. Carrying bouquets of flowers were the queen's attendants Alice Berry and Bonita Reeder. Three small children, (L-R) Ralph Lemon, Yvonne Battin and Jimmy Davis, were added to delight the crowd. Forms are in place for the pouring of concrete at the construction site for the new C.H. Jones Hall at the College of Puget Sound. Groundbreaking for the new campus at N. 15th & Warner St. had occurred on May 22, 1923, and Jones Hall was to be the first of many major campus buildings. The administration building, Jones Hall, is named after Tacoma lumberman Charles H. Jones whose widow gifted the school $200,000 on the day of its groundbreaking. The Jones family had previously donated $50,000 to the school just the year before. Sutton, Whitney & Dugan designed the college campus and J.E. Bonnell & Son were the contractors. Publicity for March of Dimes. Stepping off with their best foot forward are volunteers for the January, 1966, Mothers March (of Dimes.) Posed on the steps of Jones Hall located on the University of Puget Sound campus are four UPS students who are helping the campaign: Gay Brazas, Blake Barfuss, Steve Kneeshaw and John Gruen. They are accompanied by Mrs. Robert Hash and Mrs. Robert Strobel carrying signs marking January 27th as the date of the Mothers March. Mrs. Hash and Mrs. Strobel were the Pierce County and Tacoma Mothers March chairpersons, and were prepared to lead hundreds of volunteers on the one-day march. Choral group at the University of Puget Sound. The university's Madrigal Singers posed for a group portrait in the school's Jacobsen Recital Hall on November 11, 1966. Directed by Dr. Bruce Rodgers, the Madrigal Singers were preparing to present the 15th annual Christmas program December 6-10th on campus. About 100 cheerleaders met at the University of Puget Sound on August 6, 1968 for a six-day cheerleading workshop. They are posed in front of the Tudor-styled brick building housing the music department. A group of eighteen women model formals in a style show that was a joint fund raiser for the Orthopedic Guild and the Tacoma Day Nursery presented by one of the local department stores. A stage and runway has been built at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse for the event. This year's style show departed from the custom of previous years when they were conducted over three succeeding days following luncheons. This show took place in the evening with professional models wearing the latest in men's and women's styles. (TNT, 9/6/1952, p.20)

First meal in new womens' residence hall, College of Puget Sound. Nine of 40 women to live in new quarters gather at table with Carolyn Schneider, housemother, and Dr. and Mrs. Edward Todd, college president. The new hall, named Anderson Hall, was built for $75,000. It would be formally dedicated on February 15, 1939. Names of students are listed in the Tacoma Times article dated February 2, 1939. (T. College of Puget Sound 1938 graduation exercises. Students and families are seated in the auditorium during graduation ceremonies at Jones Hall. The college would be giving 87 degrees at its 50th graduation exercise. The college had stated earlier that pressing business conditions would make it hard for 1938 graduates to find steady employment. Those going into teaching would have the easiest time finding positions; chemistry majors would have the hardest.
