An oval mirror and frame are built into the surround together with a shelf for small items over the mantel and turnings at either side. A sofa and easy chairs flank the fireplace. A desk and chair back up to the sofa. A three-armed chandelier is shown along with a sconce on the far wall between the large windows.

Grafton, A.E. & Co. Exterior of warehouse. 1938-30 Pacific Avenue, the Reese, Crandall & Redman Building. This brick, four-story commercial building has a highly decorated cornice. Signs painted on the front of the building read, top to bottom, YOUNGLOVE GROCERY CO., United PURITY Stores. A.E. Grafton & Co. was a real estate, mortgage, fire and auto insurance, and rental office. Signs in the windows of the building indicate it is "For Rent". TPL-6391
Independent Insulation Corporation, exterior of Pacific Carbide. This newly constructed, one story building with gabled roof is built of concrete block. An ornamented doorway is located in the middle of the front of the building and the cement parking area comes directly up to the building.
Site of proposed medical center at South L and M Streets and South 11th and 12th Streets; Continental, Inc., Earl C. Walters. The property is being used as a trailer court. Most of the trailers are the type pulled by cars. In this view clothes lines are being used. A large billboard takes up part of the vacant lot. Residential areas are seen in the background. Arctic Bottling Company for H.J. Geissler. This two-story building runs across the block from Saint Helens Avenue to Tacoma Avenue. Decorative stone carvings outline the windows on the second floor and the arched windows and entry way on the lower floor. Next door is the Hambone Eatery and the Winthrop Motor Company. Many automobiles are parked at the service station and on the street. See also D20091-1. TPL-1781.
Tacoma Laundry, Meyer's home, five laundries and a garage. This home was built in 1938 by William Hiltbrunn. It is French Chateau in style and made of brick. The house was purchased in 1940 by businessman Fred J. Meyer. Exterior view of Fred J. Meyer's home taken in September of 1944.

Exterior of house at present state, Wollander Far West Homes, W.A. Wollander. Site construction of this prefabricated home was begun January 22, 1948 (see Richard's collection series #D31,563). The windows, doors and roof have been installed. The chimney is complete. Frames are in place for a concrete front step. The landscaping has not been finished.

The Veterans of Foreign wars were wrapping up four days of meetings after having a successful convention, with a parade through downtown Tacoma. More than 3,000 delegates and members of the women's auxiliary from Washington State, and 2,000 marchers, representing other organizations would participate. The Equitable Building, later known as the Commonwealth Building, was completed in 1948. It was a completely modern office building, twelve stories high, built in the International style, but was called "distinctly American". George G. Franklin was the owner of Franklin Food Stores, a Tacoma grocery and meat store. Franklin Food Stores had five locations located throughout Tacoma. George G. was married to Alice S. Willard A. Wollander owned Wollander Farwest Homes and Wollander Better Builder Plans, home designers and building companies. In 1946 Farwest was getting ready to build a massive amount, about 25-100 homes daily, of prefabricated homes in Tacoma. The consumer would have a choice of 725, 832 or 920 square feet, two bedroom houses; these houses would be available for under $6,000. Exterior of Ingleside Apartments, Tom Lowry Company. The apartment building was built in 1909 and was the "first large apartment built here" according to the Tacoma Daily Ledger in 1931. The Ingleside Apartments had 56 units. The alternate address was 515-17 No. 2nd St. The exterior of the building is nearly covered with vines whose leaves are off during the winter weather. Ed Miller, President of Miller Construction Company, Inc. was one of the founders of the Homebuilders Association of Tacoma. This organization was affiliated with the National Association of Homebuilders of the United States; the group promoted better values in homes, developed efficiency in the homebuilding industry, and they continuously promoted long-range plans to expand further building developments in this area.
