It's that wacky time again, time for the 12th annual Freshman Stunt Night at the College of Puget Sound, presented under the supervision of the Department of Dramatic Art. History will never be the same after September 20, 1940 when the Freshmen take aim at George Washington, Helen, Paris and the Trojan Horse, among others. Pictured left to right are Norma Gagliardi, Walter Ebbett, Aldo Benedetti (kneeling), Kay Copeland, Beverly Birdsall and Jack Miller. The four skits to be presented to students and the public are "George Washington's Life Story, Sort of Chopped Up by the Little Hatchet with which He Carved Out the United States," "Paris, This is It" (the love story of Helen, Paris and the Trojan Horse), a Baby Contest and "Spot Cash," the story of a fifty dollar bill as it changes hands. On November 8, 1940, the freshmen presented Booth Tarkington's comedy "The Travelers" before a student assembly. The cast included Art Sheets, Ruth Hanawalt, Roberta Humble, Ed Ercegovic, George Victor, Dorothea Federico, Bob Albertson, Gordon Soder, Everett Lowther, Patricia Hanson and Frank Hicks. The Ski Club sponsored CPS ski day at Mount Rainier, as well as a high school ski tournament. They also competed, winning the Vancouver U.B.C. meet and placing sixth in the Northwest Intercollegiate Ski Meet. Silver Skis winner at Mount Rainier was member Bill Taylor (not pictured.) The person in the front row, far left is listed in the 1941 yearbook as Hoheim. This is incorrect.

Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was named after Dr. Edward H. Todd, in honor of his many years of service to the school. College of Puget Sound had many new additions in mind for the future, hoping to make CPS one of the nicest and most modern liberal arts colleges in the Northwest. CPS. Students at the College of Puget Sound are determined to win the many valuable awards in the Tacoma T-Man contest. One young man is wearing a gas mask. Two hold rifles and the last one holds a revolver in his hand and a pipe in his teeth. They have scoured the campus in hopes of locating the elusive subject. The 7th jingle clue was, "For he is sound as sound can be, A saint in two he is, not three. All will vouch and praise his name, and then go on to win the game". "T-Men", an Edward Small production released by Eagle Lion Films, was opening at the Rialto Theater. The film starred Dennis O'Keefe and was based on a compilation of three actual cases of US Treasury Department agents going under cover to track down a counterfeiting ring. R. Franklin Thompson, President of College of Puget Sound, is wearing a baseball mitt and standing on the C.P.S. baseball field. Thompson had a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.), he had been the President at C.P.S. for many years. President Thompson liked to get involved in many of the College activities (Tamanawas, 1947).

Franklin Thompson (right), president of CPS, are adding concrete in preparation to laying the cornerstone for the Edward H. Todd Hall, the new men's dormitory at the College of Puget Sound. Dr. Todd had served as president of the college from 1913 until 1942. Other dignitaries stand behind them to honor the dedication of this building.

Tacoma Chamber of Commerce, new men's dorm under construction. The brick work on the College of Puget Sound was started June 2, 1947, by the MacDonald Building Company June 2, 1947. CPS annual. A view of the Loggers baseball team in the dug out. Coaching CPS baseball in its second post war season was Luther "Red" Harvel, a local business man. Harvel was formerly with the Tacoma Tigers. One young man is reviewing materials from a notebook. College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?". The fourteen student members of the College of Puget Sound Choral Readers perform in recital in Jones Hall Auditorium. The group, under the direction of Martha Pearl Jones, performed a diversified program of ensemble verse readings. Members were Herb Stark, leader, Gloria Nelson, assistant leader, Doug Cullen, Ellen Davenport, Mary Kincheloe, Helen Pearson, Kaye Klopfenstein, Mel Gidley, William Gianelli, Dale Lee, David Stell, Fern McCullough, Claudia Zediker and Homer Johnson. In 1948 College of Puget Sound had the Memorial Fieldhouse built, this building was dedicated in 1949 to those CPS students who died while serving in World War II. In 1949 the President's Residence would be constructed; Dugan, Mock and Morrison were the architects. This view of the College of Puget Sound campus was taken on a lovely spring day in 1931. By this time the school had been at its North Warner address for seven years. The major buildings on campus were constructed of brick and resembled those built in Tudor style. G67.1-003
