The station has two pumps at the island in front and two automobiles are in the bays, one up on a rack. One of the attendants is looking out at the street and another is checking the front tire of one of the automobiles.

July 3, 1947, saw the opening of Cliff Anderson's new Chevron gas station in Spanaway. The station had two gas pumps and a one-bay compartment for vehicle maintenance and repair. Its address was not provided. (scan of original negative, no print on file)

A daytime view of the new service station was taken on April 29, 1948 from street level showing the two garage doors open, banners flying and the two gasoline pumps with "Shell" signs, shaped like shells, on top. At night the Shell signs were lit.

Residences line the street across from the service station. Two tall light poles will provide plenty of illumination during the dark, wet northwest weather.

Shell Oil station at Sixth & Sprague. This photograph of Wolford & Brazeau's Shell station was taken on August 2, 1950. The gas station, located at 1720 Sixth Avenue, was owned by A.H. Wolford and E.F. Brazeau. It competed for business with Les Knutsen's Associated Service located across the street. TPL-9907

Shell Oil station at 37th & Pacific. Fred's Shell Service station, owned by Fred Styf, was located at 3640 Pacific Avenue. Mr. Styf also owned another Shell station at 2523 Pacific Avenue. Pierce County Hospital (later Puget Sound General Hospital) is shown a block away.

Night scene of Wolford and Brazeau Shell service station at the intersection of 6th Ave. & Sprague. The station was owned by Arnold H. Wolford and Vernon F. Brazeau. All proceeds of gasoline sales on October 17, 1953 were being donated to the Cerebral Palsy children.

According to the 1958 City Directory, longtime Shell Oil district manager Lawrence Hausam had his offices on the Tideflats at 702 East D Street. The plant had been built in late 1949. All of Shell's receiving, packaging, and distribution facilities in the area were consolidated at the new waterfront terminal. View of exterior of plant; water transportation and rail facilities were close at hand. A warning sign posted on one building advised drivers to check the railroad tracks before backing up to prevent accidents. Photograph ordered by Shell Oil Co.
Interior - service station. Servicemen and their families had a wide variety of merchandise to choose from in a new service station located on Fort Lewis. Brand name tires, car wax and oil were just a few of the many items sold at very reasonable prices. It would not be necessary to go off base to buy regularly used supplies. Extended view of the Baza'r Discount Auto Center on an overcast day in May, 1972. Much like the Gov-Mart/Baza'r department store located in the same vicinity, the large auto center offered a "one-stop" shopping style. Customers could fill their tanks, buy Goodyear tires, and have maintenance performed on their vehicles. There were several bays and pumps in the auto center so waiting could be cut to a minimum. In May of 1925, J.B. Ness posed with his new Overland Blue Bird touring car in front of his Ness Service Station No. 1, 3802 Pacific Ave. He recently purchased the auto from the Raudenbush Motor Co., Overland and Willys-Knight dealers, through their salesman W.A. Court. Mr. Court was pictured here beside an Overland coupe sedan. Mr. Ness tested the power of his new auto up the infamous South K St. hill climb from Center Street. Mr. Ness also operated a second service station at South 60th St. & Union Ave. (TDL 5/17/1925, pg. G-3)

The 1937 City Directory lists this location as vacant; in 1938, it is listed as Bert & Ray Service Station, owned by Bert Nielson & Rayfield Pierantozzi. Light snow on ground, large Victorian house and smaller one. Directional signs put up by AAA point to "National Park 54" (Mount Rainier Nat'l. Park 54 miles) and Tacoma "City Center 2."

Siphorus L. Gates opened Si's Super Service gas station at 524 South Stadium Way in 1959. The short-lived station was built into a notch in the high bluff on the west side of Stadium Way. To the left of Si's in this photograph from August of 1959 is the back of the University Union Club, 529 Broadway. The Union Club was built in 1888 with a Greco Colonial design by Whidden & Lewis. Standard Oil Co. started doing business in Western Washington in 1886. They were shipping oil from Cleveland, Ohio to Tacoma in box and tank railroad cars. They have consistently grown and expanded and have new offices in the Tacoma Tideflats area. View of new Standard Oil service station located at 9212 South Tacoma Way. It was purchased by Gene L. Myers in 1961 and is still owned by him in 2003. The business is now Gene's Towing.

Standard Oil Company. A view of Clarkson's Chevron Station at night. An automobile is seen in the service area on a hoist. The station advertises Atlas Batteries, Chevron Supreme Gasoline, and lubrication and washing services. A large Coca-Cola cooler sits outside the garage doors. It was apparently the first Chevron station built in Washington State after WWII. The station eventually closed after the I-5 freeway was completed; it was reopened in 1961 as Gene's Richfield Service. Rudolph L. (Bud) Abraham's Standard Oil service station in September of 1945. The station was built in 1927 for the Delin Tire Co. It was remodeled in 1934 to be a Standard Oil service station. In the photograph, it is shown next to the Home Electric Co. at 1316 A St.
