Mr. and Mrs. Lorne E. McKendry's residence. Exterior view taken in July of 1946 of Lorne and Doris McKendry's home located at 11430 Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest. The home is English Cotswold Cottage style, built in 1922. Kirtland Cutter was the architect. Lorne was the Secretary-Treasurer of Carstens Packing Company.

The street shows automobiles, a bus and delivery trucks.

Friden-Raymond Building. Charles T. Uhlman Block (Market Block) at South 9th and A Street, home of the Butler Hotel. This three story brick building has ornamental brickwork at the cornice, arched windows with Gibbs surrounds. The first story houses a barber shop, the Seattle Times, the Army Aid station, Friden Calculator Agency and Allen-Wales Adding Machine Agency. The upper stories have leaded-glass windows. Building by Pickles and Sutton, Architects, 1899. The building was razed in 1951.

By October of 1941, the first phase of the 6th Avenue "face lift" was complete. The "jog" in the road at Sixth and Pine had been ironed out, eliminating a traffic bottleneck. The street had been widened and repaved. On the left is Central Bank (2816 6th Ave) and on the left is the Sixth Ave. Market (2809 6th Ave.) and Applings (2815 6th Ave.) The neon sign for the Sixth Ave. Bowling Center (2807 6th Ave.) can be seen in the right foreground. Two beds with a bedside table between them fit easily in the large bedroom that was part of the new second-story addition to Verne Carlson's residence in 1950. Drawers with an open storage area on top have been fitted into one of the areas left by the sloping roof-line. A window has been placed along the far wall. A larger view of the bedroom that was part of the new second-story addition to Verne Carlson's residence in 1950 shows the study area, closet, beds and storage under the eaves. His older daughter is trying on a new dress in front of the large mirrors on the sliding closet doors while her younger sister starts the combination radio-phonograph. A view of the interior of the mezzanine of the New York Building where Broadway Furniture had been located. A few pieces of furniture are still stored here and on the ground floor. A wide stairway joins the mezzanine to the ground floor. The tin ceiling tiles can be seen as well as water pipes and chains and lighting fixtures.

Exposure of carpet at Franke Tobey Jones Home. This photograph, taken on January 18, 1951, shows new interior carpeting on the stairwell and stairs of the Franke Tobey Jones Home. There is a long wooden chest tucked away next to the staircase. Located at 5340 North Bristol near Point Defiance Park, the English Tudor retirement home had its ground breaking on March 14, 1924, and opened nearly a year later on March 4, 1925. The home was originally named Restholme but was renamed in honor of benefactor Franke M. Tobey Jones.

This possibly could be the front entrance to the Dennis Slenning residence at 1215 North Alder Street. The house has a contemporary look to it; very simplistic in style and lines. The building evidently had many windows, including three corner windows at the front entrance and three miniature openings in the wooden door.

The exterior of the Franke Tobey Jones Home. The English Tudor-style retirement home was built in 1924 and named in honor of its benefactor Franke M. Tobey Jones. As of 2001 it is still one of the more sought-after retirement facilities in Tacoma. It had various facilities for individuals living independently, married couples and those who needed assisted living.
