The furniture company was located on the Tideflats, at the foot of the 11th Street Bridge, at 402 E. 11th St. The 1927 City Directory lists George Slyter as president, manager and secretary and W.D. Smith as vice president and treasurer. The company was noted for its manufacture of fine overstuffed furniture. They went out of business in 1933. (Argentum)

The market was built for the Sotak Bros. by the Standard Construction Co. Some of the employees present have been identified as John Sotak, Vera Sotak, Mike Sotak, Leona Sotak (Mrs. Chuck) Paulik and Marie Sotak. Chuck Paulik would open Chuck's Lunch & Tavern in 1930 in part of the building. Chuck's Lunch would be renamed Chuck's Alibi Restaurant (after its cocktail room) in 1968. ca. 1927. The Crystal Palace Market, at the corner of South 11th and Market Streets, opened to the public on Saturday, June 4, 1927. One of the largest "food emporiums" of its kind on the west coast, the Crystal Palace had 189 food stalls and 50 farmers' tables. All equipment was standardized and uniform, but each stall was under separate management. This photograph shows several of the fruit and vegetable stalls operated by Japanese-American merchants that were located on the Market Street side of the building.
