Pacific Lutheran College was proud of the new combination chapel/music/speech building that would be the religious and cultural center of the campus. At a cost of $625,000, it contained a 1,238 seat auditorium, music facilities, and a radio studio. A small devotional chapel, seating 75 people, was on the third floor.

The choir at Pacific Lutheran College, directed by Gunnar J. Malmin, would be giving its annual pre-tour Tacoma concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Junior Class (Class of 1953) are seen at Annie Wright Seminary. The junior class with 29 students was the largest junior class in the history of Annie Wright. They presented "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" for honorable mention at Halloween and "The Mikado" operetta. Names are listed in the school yearbook for 1952, The Shield.

The 12-room Lowell Elementary School at 810 North 13th Street, built to replace the original Lowell School, was completed in February 1951. This view of the exterior of the school shows the concrete steps up to the entrance of the two-story school. Lowell School can trace its history back to the first school in Tacoma, a cabin built at North 28th and Starr streets. The school shown replaced the Lowell school built in 1892; that building had to be torn down after being damaged by the great 1949 earthquake. By February of 1943, the vocational training center at Clover Park High School was ready for use. With demand for skilled war workers at a record high, classes ran around the clock at the facility. Jing Ho Ling (at left) was Stadium High School Class of 1943's co-valedictorian and was among the 541 graduates honored at ceremonies held at the State Armory on June 2, 1943. Miss Ling, of Chinese descent, posed that night with her parents and eight brothers and sisters. The children are probably standing in order of age; from left Shun Chih, Jing Noe, Shun Hung; Shun Chow, Jing Chuan, Jing Chu, Shun Mei, Ling Yet Sze (mother), Shun Lein and Ling Yunan (father). The Stadium High School track team were honored at a team banquet held at the Broadway Sports Center on May 20, 1943. This was the final meeting of the Tiger track champs who were undefeated in city competition as many of the boys were headed for military service. Hec Edmundson, UW coach, was the guest of honor and principal speaker. He is seated in the front row, sixth from left. Also in the front row was Stadium track coach Mitch Angelel, second from right. John Heinrick, Stadium Athletic Director, is in the second row, third from right, and next to Inspirational Award winner Harry Roegner, second from right. In September of 1942, five members of the Lincoln Abes varsity eleven pose in the the unfinished Lincoln Bowl prior to their opening prep grid game against Stadium High School. After the game on September 18th, the team was all smiles. They battled the Tigers to a scoreless tie, their first non loss in the annual game since 1931. Stadium High School football coach Johnny Heinrick had 60 boys turn out to fill 11 varsity positions in September of 1942. Coach Heinrick was optimistic, despite having lost all but 4 of his 1941 letterman to graduation and enlistment. His players in general would be a year younger and 7-8 pounds lighter than the previous year.The team would face their arch rival, the Lincoln Abes, in the September 18, 1942 "King's X" game, held this year at 3:30p.m. in the afternoon due to mandatory dim outs. Tacoma's Own Quiz Kids had all the answers as they posed at the top of the Spanish steps near the Elks Lodge at 565 Broadway in October of 1942. The ninth graders from Mason Intermediate School had written a script that explored the various agencies and functions of the War Chest. As the Agency prepared to enter its annual fund raising blitz, the group of students were available to attend functions and answer any questions. On November 21, 1942, Congressman John Coffee, center in overcoat and scarf, visited the Lakewood area to check out the progress on the construction of the addition to Clover Park High School. The $225,000 addition was the result of a federal grant that he had helped obtain. The finished addition would include four classrooms, a cafeteria and a gymnasium.
