Rhodes provided the spring and summer fashions and helped the Shipmates' Club with planning their annual style show in April of 1946. Nine members of the Shipmates modeled a variety of bathing suits for the annual Shipmates' Tea and Style Show held in April of 1946 at the Tacoma Yacht Club. For the style show, the Rhodes Sports Shop provided a selection of outdoor clothes suitable for sailing Puget Sound and Canadian waters. The bathing suit models are standing in front of the "Santa Rosa" owned by Jewell and Edna Lerum; Edna was a club member. Tacoma Yacht Club member Eva Seymour has been tentatively identified as posing fourth from the right. She and husband August Seymour were owners of the "April Ann" which was moored at the Club. (T. Tacoma Housing Authority Valentine Party at Salishan. Salishan began as a community for military, war workers and their families. The first families moved in, in 1943. The community center offered many activities for youth to take part in. The Valentine's Day dance was sponsored by the Tacoma Housing Authority. Martinac Shipbuilding was founded by Joseph M. Martinac, he established himself as an expert boat builder in Tacoma. Martinac has built minesweepers, purse seiners, sardine and tuna boats, pleasure boats and has converted fishing vessels into Navy patrol boats. Daffodil Parade, Times. Queen Doreen Moody and Princesses Joy Lundgren and Jerene Fly are seated on the royal float. They have had a busy week. The 15th annual Daffodil Festival began March 29, 1948. Coronation took place on March 2nd at Sumner High School. Parades through Tacoma, Sumner and Puyallup and a flower show took place March 3rd. The yacht parade and sail boat races on Commencement Bay took place March 4th and a ski race at Paradise Valley on Mount Rainier also took place on March 4th. (TNT, 3/30/1948, p.1)

Daffodil Parade, Times. The Amvets float represented a tank and a young woman waves to the crowd from the top. A band is in front of Peoples store heading past the Puget Sound Bank Building along Pacific Avenue. In all 1/2 million daffodils were used in the parade. One hundred floats, bands, mounted posses, and marchers appeared in the fifteenth annual parade.

Daffodil Parade, Times. The Golden Arrow Archery Club depicted Robin Hood and his merry band with several members on the float in costume. A large circular target is shown at the rear of the float. Several members are walking ahead of the float pulling ropes. Mondau's Tug Boat Restaurant and Tavern is seen on the opposite side of the street as well as an entrance to a pool parlor.

Cecil B. DeMille's "King of Kings" was presented at the Roxy (Pantages) Theater March 22 - 26, 1948. Admission was free as sponsored by the Tacoma Council of Churches. The theater was nearly filled for the showing of the film when this photograph was taken on the 26th. The Pantages was built as a vaudeville theater in 1917. Motion pictures replaced vaudeville shows and the name was changed to the RKO Orpheum in 1930 and changed again in 1932 when the new Roxy opened. Twenty seven students were graduating from Annie Wright Seminary, and eighteen members of Class VIII were graduating to the High School Division in June of 1948. Commencement exercises were being held in Keator Hall and Raynor Chapel. Rt. Reverend Lane W, Barton, Bishop of Eastern Oregon, would deliver the commencement address, and Rt. Reverend Steven F. Tacoma's Monday Civic Club was planting the first seedling trees at Franklin Park near So. 12th St. and So. Puget Sound. The trees would be known as "The Monday Civic Club Memory Grove", the trees were a gift from the Washington State Forestry Department. Over 100 members of the Civic Club were participating in the ceremonies, which would begin with a luncheon at the New Yorker Cafe. George Hunt Weyerhaeuser had his brother Philip as his best man for his July 10, 1948 wedding. The couple was married at 5:00 P.M.in a ceremony officiated by Reverend Harold B. Long. The reception was held in the Pavilion and was immediately following the marriage ceremony. The Tacoma Times on their front page reported on the wedding of James H. Louie and Virginia Lew Wing who were married by Rev. Walter Macoskey on August 5, 1948 at First Baptist Church in front of 125 guests. This was the first wedding ceremony officiated for a Chinese-American couple at First Baptist Church. Virginia had been a member of the church since childhood. James is a graduate of University of Washington and received his masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Virginia graduated from Stadium High School and is a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital, School of Nursing. Marian Andahl - Arnold Slater wedding. Marian Josephine Andahl and Arnold Clyde Slater were married in front of 400 guests on August 14, 1948. These are believed to be the bride's attendants at the altar of Our Savior's Lutheran Church featuring the maid of honor, four bridesmaids, flower girl and candlelighters. Maid of honor Grace Cuthbert wore a gown of pale blue taffeta and carried delphiniums in crescent shape. Bridesmaids Edna Andahl, Pat Johnson, Lois Buck and Louise Sylstad were in dusty rose taffeta gowns and carried bouquets of rubrum lilies. Candlelighters, in yellow taffeta, were Delores Burns and Mrs. Andres Holt, Jr. Dressed in blue taffeta was Linda Peterson, flower girl. Marian Slater was a graduate of Stadium High School while her new husband Arnold graduated from Lincoln High School and was a Washington State College student at the time of their wedding. Chaplain Howard Rusthoi of Los Angeles, California brought his United Full Gospel City-Wide Revival to Tacoma for two weeks in August of 1948. His giant tent cathedral was set up at South 14th and Trafton. Chaplain Rusthoi had served for twenty years in the ministry including 28 months with the U.S. Army Air Corps. His services were broadcast nightly on KTBI radio. His revival had the local help and support of eleven churches and their pastors. Appearing with Chaplain Rusthoi were Joseph Waugh, a scotch tenor, and Fred Henry, who with billed as the "Blind Pianist". (T. Times, 8/7/48, p. 3).

Dorothy Ann Schneider-Glastetter. Dorothy Ann Schneider and Herman Bernard Glastetter were married September 18, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Father McGreil performed the ceremony before 200 guests. Dorothy is shown wearing her wedding gown of ivory satin with a round neckline and tight girdle of crystal beads and pearls. The skirt flowed into a long train. She wears a finger tip veil of illusion caught with a tiara of pearls and is holding her bouquet of stepanotis and orchids. (T.Times, 9/18/1948, p.10)

This window display shows meat hung in the back and how to cook meat using different methods along the front. From left to right, the meats are lamb, veal, beef rib, beef, pork exterior and pork interior. The cuts of meat shown on the raised tray in the middle are "party cuts" for special occasions.
