ca. 1925. Interior of Raynor Chapel at Annie Wright Seminary, circa 1925. Beamed ceiling, stained glass window, rows of pews. Building by Sutton, Whitney and Dugan, Architects, 1924. The chapel was erected by the Raynor Alumnae Chapter of the Seminary in honor of Mrs. Amanda Raynor, vice president of the school from its opening in 1884 till 1908. The stained glass memorial window was donated by Jesse Thomas in honor of his wife. The altar was a gift of the Tacoma Rotary Club. (TDL 1/18/1925, pg. 10) (Argentum)

Times in conjunction with the investigation into the kidnapping of George Hunt Weyerhaeuser. On May 24, 1935, George was kidnapped near noon from the grounds of Annie Wright. He had left his school, Lowell Elementary, and walked to meet his sister Ann at the seminary intending to ride home with her for lunch. The Weyerhaeusers were informed at around 3 p.m. that their son was missing. A ransom note, demanding $200,000 arrived around 6:30pm. that evening. (T. Times 5/26/1935, pg. 1 plus succeeding months.)

In June of 1935, some of Annie Wright Seminary's earliest alumnae returned to the campus to help celebrate the school's 50th anniversary. The girls school opened in September of 1884 at 611 Division Ave. and these ladies were some of the first students. As a part of the anniversary celebration, they took part in a seminary pageant, modeling outfits from that opening year. Pictured seated are, left to right, Mrs. W.H. Panhellenic Tea at Great Hall, Annie Wright, News Tribune, Mrs. Hosmer. The Tacoma Panhellenic honored graduating senior high school girls and their mothers at their annual tea on April 24, 1948, at the Great Hall at Annie Wright. The program consisted of talks by Miss Maxine Blake and Miss Jacquine Norback about college life from the student's view point. Lona Huseby played Chopin and Debussy on the piano. The Clover Park choir sang. This view shows four women wearing corsages in front of one of the fireplaces in the Great Hall. (T.Times, 4/22/1948, p.10)

This aerial photograph of part of the northwest section of the Stadium District was taken in August of 1948. The large Tudor Gothic design building at the bottom is Annie Wright Seminary, 827 Tacoma Avenue North, which opened at this address in 1924. Immediately above Annie Wright are the courts and clubhouse of the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club, 502 Borough Road. The large area of trees to the left is the "top" end of Garfield Park. TPL-9494

In January 1949 Annie Wright Seminary students would be traveling to Olympia where they would visit the Governor and the State government buildings. The above photograph of students enrolled in Annie Wright Seminary's lower school appeared in the 1949 Annie Wright Seminary's yearbook, the Shield. All the girls are wearing their uniforms. Annie Wright Seminary, Junior class play for the yearbook "The Shield." For their theatrical production, the AWS juniors presented Jean Cocteau's version of the Sophocles play "Antigone." "Antigone" is the story of a young girl who defies her uncle, the King, to bury the remains of her brother. The lead roles of Antigone and Ismene were played by Heather Spence and Dorthea Weiss. The play was produced on Saturday at 8:30p.m. in Keator Hall. The main characters can be seen standing in the center of what may be the curtain call, flanked by chorus members and sword carriers.
