Tacoma Mailer's Union #54, 15th Annual Banquet held at "The Firs". Union members and their spouses look up at the camera from long banquet tables. Elaborate decorations hang from the ceiling. The Firs was located two miles south of the Roy "Y" on Mountain Highway in the Loveland area. It was built in 1922 by Irv and Lacy Ball of vertical log construction, and served as an inn, restaurant and cabaret. It catered primarily to banquets and private parties. It was destroyed in 1974 by fire and never rebuilt.

Afifi Temple Arab Patrol, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine. Group of men photographed in June of 1932 wearing Masonic costumes on the steps of the Masonic Temple. The "Shriners" were founded in 1872 as a fun fraternal organization for men who had completed their requirements in the Scottish or Knights Templar (York rite) Masonic organizations. This is the Afifi Temple Arab Patrol, photographed within the Masonic Temple, 47 Saint Helens Ave., in June of 1932. It is the same photograph as 411, image 9 except that part of the background has been lightened.

Tacoma Little Theater, Drama League, production of "Engaged". Directed by Ann Gordon. Harry P. Cain, future Tacoma Mayor and U.S. Senator, at far right, appeared in the stage play. From 1933 through 1939 the Tacoma Little Theater productions were presented on the stage of the Slavonian Hall at 2306 No. 30th St. In 1940 they moved to their current home at 210-12 No. I St.

The Tacoma Club, located on the top floor of the Washington Building, was organized and incorporated in November, 1936. The original roster of members included leaders in lumber, retailing and manufacturing, banking, real estate, medical, and legal fields. S.A. "Sam" Perkins, newspaper publisher, was one of the first presidents of the club. George Herbert Raleigh was the manager of the Bank of California in 1937. Densmore are on the committee in charge of Tacoma's Temple's Golden Jubilee ceremony and ball. The 23rd Annual convention of the Northwest Loyal Order of Moose was held in Tacoma in July of 1938. Over 2500 members of 32 lodges from all parts of the Northwest, covering Alaska to the California border and east to Montana, descended on the Winthrop Hotel, convention headquarters. Over 1000 participated in the parade held on July 22nd, from its formation at 7th & Pacific to its conclusion at the Winthrop. Here women in white uniforms are pictured marching down a Tacoma street. Pictured are six of the seven Tacoma senior Girl Scouts who last year took a "gypsy trip" from Camp Wildwood in Portland, Oregon, to Camp Merriweather in Tillamook. Left to right: Mary McDonald, Marian Hartwich, Peggy Shaw, Jane Loren, Jane Lund, Julia Schwalen. Not picture is Betty Lou Card. The previous summer's trip took them from the Portland Girl Scout camp to Eugene Oregon and on to the coed Tillamook Camp, where they were the guests of the Boy Scouts. A similar trip is planned for August this year from local Camp St. Albans. The trip, as well as other St Albans innovations, will be financed by the "Cookie Crunch," Jan. 23-Feb. 6th, when the girls take advance orders for Girl Scout cookies. New to St. Albans this year will be a Pioneer Unit for senior girls, sailing trips for the Mariner division and the first time admission of Brownies to camp. In January of 1940, nine men were photographed while looking over the dormitory in the new Tacoma Rescue Mission at 1510-12 Pacific Avenue. The Tacoma Rescue Mission provided clean beds in a wholesome, Christian surrounding to transient and homeless men, most referred by the Pierce County hospital, the welfare office or the Police Department. The Mission's "new" building had previously been a tavern and small two story hotel. The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel was built on the site where the Rescue Mission used to stand. (T. Junior League Thrift Shop. Mrs. John Gregg, Cornelia Marie Cardin, and Mrs. John Bates Roberts are shown readying the refurbished shop for re-opening in late January of 1939. Funds raised are used for league's Well Baby Clinic. The woman in the photograph identified by the Tacoma Times as Cornelia Marie Cardin was known to her family as "Connie Rie." She married Paul Sheppard Savidge, Jr. of Tacoma on December 7, 1940 according to her daughter. (T. Times, 1/24/1939, p. 9)
