Tacoma's Elks Club was having their annual "Extravaganza" event in 1949. This year's show would include a short concert by the Elks Band, ten all-Elks acts, and a minstrel show. All benefits from the show would be used to help send the local Elks Band to the Grand Lodge Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The newly appointed Elks Exalted Ruler, John H. Lambda Sigma Chi and Pi Tau Omega were co-hosting the annual spring formal at the Elks Temple on May 14, 1949. Members, pledges and alumni were invited to attend "A Night in Shanghai."
