More than 10,000 people joined together for prayer and songs at the 1949 Easter sunrise service at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood. It was estimated to be the largest group to ever participate in local Easter worship services. A portion of the large crowd was captured through a doorway as they attended the annual sunrise service. Trumpets proclaimed dawn, and the service began shortly thereafter. (T.N.T., 4/18/49, p. 1).

Elks Christmas Dance Committee was making arrangements for their annual dance. The committee's Chairman was Lowell and Evelyn Wasser, they were in charge of the event. The Elks would be collecting Christmas gifts for needy children between the ages of one and 14 years. The Elks were planning to distribute 600 gifts to children during the holiday season. Dance committee members are wrapping gifts and deciding on the dance decorations (T. Times, 12/5/47, p. 15).

Renamed Veterans Day in 1953, November 11 was first proclaimed as Armistice Day in 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I. That year, on November 13, John Philip Sousa's band played in the Washington National Guard Armory in Tacoma and President Woodrow Wilson spoke there two months earlier. In 1947, a Military Ball was held on Armistice Day at the Armory, where more than 1,500 people were expected to attend. The presentation of colors to the local reserve units of the Army and Army Air Corps highlighted the evening. Army and Navy dignitaries and prominent civilian guests attended the event. Lincoln High School's Junior-Senior prom was held in the school's gymnasium on January 21, 1949 with Keith Rader and John Hreha as the event's chairmen. The theme for the evening was "Top Hat Twirl" and the gym was decorated with a top hat, cane, white gloves and a New York City skyline. A local orchestra played for the students. Dorothy Ann Eichhorn and Spencer Kenyon Hopkins, Jr., were married September 26, 1952, at St. Luke's Memorial Church. Dorothy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Eichhorn of Puyallup and Spencer is the son of Spencer and Jean Hopkins of Tacoma. Dorothy wore a gown of Chantilly lace and satin with a fitted bodice and full skirt. Her veil was caught to a sweetheart lace cap. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and green orchids with ivy streamers and she wore a strand of pearls that belonged to the bridegroom's mother. The Little Church on the Prairie was decorated in a Christmas motif of white chrysanthemums, gladiolus, and poinsettias for the wedding of Marjory Anne Whitmore and Charles Theodore Chandler III on December 27, 1952. The bride is wearing a beautiful Chantilly lace and net over satin wedding gown which includes a long sleeved lace bolero jacket. A diamond and platinum brooch belonging to her mother is pinned onto the jacket. She has a fingertip veil which is fastened to a lace cap. Her bouquet consists of stephanotis and white orchids. Both bride and groom studied at the College of Puget Sound. They honeymooned in Sun Valley, Idaho. (TNT 1-4-53, D-1)
