Residents enjoy themselves at the new Aladdin Apartments, 2112 So. 90th St., in late summer of 1968. The 105-unit all-electric complex hosted a gala opening on September 8, 1968. Built of stucco and stone, the two-story units had balconies and/or patios. The one and two bedroom unfurnished apartments rented for $135 and up. The Aladdin was centrally located, two blocks from the freeway between Lakewood and the Tacoma Mall. Features in the 1000 sq. ft. units included large bedrooms, wall-to-wall carpeting, soundproofing, dishwasher, disposal, and washer/dryer. Ample parking was provided for residents and a security patrol was present for protection. As can be seen above on August 26, 1968, cement walkways traversed the smoothly manicured lawns. The recently completed Aladdin Apartments were located in the city's southend at 2112 So. 90th St. A recreation room was provided for the usage of the apartment complex's tenants. Pictured above on August 26, 1968, are several men and women enjoying the Aladdin's amenities which included a massive brick fireplace, jukebox, piano, and comfortable lounging chairs. This is a view of the Tahoma Apartments as pictured in September of 1926. The Tahoma Apartments were built in 1925 by F.F. Travis and A.I. Maltby, with Travis serving as architect and contractor. The eight story building, located at 117 Tacoma Avenue North, was built for approximately $250,000. Its tenants included the Radford School of Drama. In 1940, its name was changed to the Town House Apartments. It was taken over by the College of Puget Sound in 1956, which sold the building in 1970.

ca. 1927. The Dreher Apartments, 523 So. "G" St. The Dreher was named after its builder Ernest A.Dreher. It was designed by J.I. Higgen, who also served as contractor. It was built in 1925. To the left of the apartments is the John F. Yuncker home at 519 So. "G" St. It was built in 1888 and is on the City and National Registry. (WSHS)

ca. 1926. George L. and Minnie Dickson's 1926 Christmas card. Exterior view of the Dickson house, a Prairie-style modern American cottage designed by Russell and Babcock, Architects, in 1909. Mrs. Dickson is credited with influencing the architectural style of her residence. The site, when purchased in 1909 for $16,000, brought the highest price ever paid at that time. The home was chosen in 1920 as one of Tacoma's three most beautiful homes and was featured in the January 1921 periodical "House Beautiful." One of the factors considered in its selection for that honor was its dedication to the cottage architectural style. (filed with Argentum)

In July of 1926, this three year old bungalow at 1607 No. Alder was on the market. It is pictured with the "For Sale" sign at the front of the house. Photograph ordered by the Melendy Company, real estate. The house had been built for the current owner, Anton C. Schwarz, and was located near the entrance of the College of Puget Sound campus. The listing in the Tacoma Daily Ledger described the 14x20 living room with fireplace, music room or den separated from living room by french doors, 14 x 14 dining room, kitchen, breakfast room and two downstairs bedrooms and a bath. The basement was 28 x 35 and contained the laundry. The second floor had one bedroom and an attic for storage. Floors were of triple construction, 2 of fir with an oak overlay. Gates at the rear of the Robert and Emily Walker residence, 3411 N. 30th St. The home was built in 1921 for the owner of Walker Cut Stone Company, with John Chalmers serving as the contractor. The house was later the residence of Ray Gamble, the " Elephant House." Robert Walker, a native of Somersetshire England, emigrated to the United States in 1882. In 1907, he moved from Minnesota to Tacoma. His first partnership was called Wilcox and Walker, but in 1908 he bought out his partner and incorporated the Walker Stone Co. He and his wife raised five children: Edna, Kitty, William, Robert G. and Leona. For Western Iron and Wire Company. (filed with Argentum)
