An elderly group of former Vashon College students gather to reminisce on college days at Burton on Vashon Island. A woman jots down notes as two older women converse in front of a wooden structure with covered porch. Burton is located on Vashon Island on the north end of Quartermaster Harbor in southwest King County. The community grew around the college that was founded in 1892. It was a coeducational, non sectarian preparatory school whose enrollment grew from 78 in 1892 to 200 in 1904. Unfortunately, the main building of Vashon College burned to the ground in 1912 with building and contents a total loss and a decision was made not to rebuild.
