Microsoft mogul Bill Gates' parents' wedding. William Henry Gates Jr. and Mary Maxwell married May 11, 1951 in Seattle. The photo shows the couple in an automobile leaving after the ceremony and reception. Both of Gates' parents can trace their Northwest roots back to the late 1800's. Bill Jr. grew up in Bremerton, the son of a prosperous local merchant, served as a Second Lieutenant in WW II and returned after the war to complete his undergraduate work at the University of Washington and enter law school. There he met Mary Maxwell, an energetic and high spirited athlete and sorority girl nicknamed "Giggles" by her friends. The wedding of Shirley Claire Fields and Jack Schneidermann in the Wedgewood Room at the Winthrop Hotel. A single ring ceremony was performed by Rabbi Bernard Roseberg under a canopy of white stock and greens flanked by candelabra. The bride, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Hyman S. Fields, wore an ivory satin gown with a yoke of net and venice lace with a long train and an illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis. The groom was from Coos Bay, Oregon and was the son of Mrs. David Schneidermann. The matron of honor was the recently married Mrs. Alvin L. Fields, sister-in-law of the bride, who wore the same bridal gown at her wedding. The Junior Bridesmaid was Dorothy Fields and the Bridesmaids were Helen Gold, Mona Kleiner and Nancy Brown. The Best Man was Harold Schneidermann. The bride was a graduate of Stadium High School and received her degree in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Washington. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. The groom was a Business Administration graduate from the University of Oregon and a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. The twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Green, Marlene and Darlene Green, were married in a joint wedding ceremony at the Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave. S.W. in Lakewood, on August 11, 1954, their birthday. The two brides posed side-by-side in identical wedding gowns in front of the church altar. Both are wearing gowns heavily decorated in lace and satin covered with net. They appear to be carrying stephanotis bouquets and they have matching pearl necklaces. Marlene Green married Claude Flansburg while Darlene wed William Melville. A style show featuring a bride's trousseau occurred at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club during the time of the annual Delta Delta Delta Pansy Ring Tea in May, 1954. Models portraying the bridal party stand in front of the Ring of flowers. Both attendants and the bride carry wreaths of flowers, perhaps dahlias, to correspond with the circular theme. Mrs. Paul Whitcomb, the former Janet Erickson, models a wedding gown with flowing train. Mrs. Whitcomb was the former 1953 chapter president of Delta Delta Delta. Her groom in the photograph is Warren Hunt of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Hunt is a graduating senior from Puyallup, a business administration major, and former student body president. The address for Miethkes is given in the 1952 phone book as "Milton Ave.- foot of the Hill, Route 2, Tacoma" and in the 1953 phone book as " 1 mile East of Old Fife Square, RFD 2." Photo ordered for the never published TNT wedding layout of 1952. The TNT pressmen were on strike from April - August of 1952 and no papers were published during the time that weddings were usually featured. Miss Orris wed Gary Myles White on August 9, 1952 at St. Patricks. Miss Orris was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Frank F. Orris and the bridegroom elect was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.K. White. The bride was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Willis of Tacoma and the groom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Bushnell of Seattle. The bride wore Chantilly lace over ice blue tulle and satin with an ice blue fingertip veil. The bridal attendants were Mrs. George W. Brewer, Mrs. Alvin Lackey, Mrs. W. Benjamin Davis, Mrs. Harry Sanky, Miss Jeanne Shugard and Miss Billie Mellis. Junior attendants were Linda Willis and Gary Willis. The best man was the groom's twin brother Donald D. Bushnell. Wedding of LaMoyne Barcott and John Hreha. LaMoyne is the daughter of Anton and the granddaughter of John Barcott. John Barcott, an immigrant from Yugoslavia, founded the California Oyster House on money raised from logging in Alaska. In 1946, John turned over the management of the restaurant to Anton. The Oyster House closed in 1958 and the family opened Harbor Lights on Ruston Way in 1959. LaMoyne eventually took over the management of the the famous waterfront restaurant. The couple were also avid magicians and won the best comedy act at the 1953 Convention of Pacific Coast Association of Magicians in Spokane for "the Vanishing Monkey." The bridegroom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hreha, Sr. and a junior at the College of Puget Sound. The couple graduated from Lincoln High School. The bride wore a white gown of tulle over satin.
Dagmar Quevli and Ensign Wayne Beale Knight were married August 31, 1952, in an evening wedding ceremony in Raynor Chapel at Annie Wright Seminary. Dagmar Quevli radiates happiness as she poses for her bridal portrait in the Great Hall wearing a French petite brocade gown. She carried a simple bouquet of white chrysanthemums and asters. Patricia Schaller and Richard D. Gass were married October 12, 1952, at Mason Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Lester H. and Faye Schaller. The bridegroom is the son of Conrad P. and Vera Gass. Patricia wore a white satin gown covered with French Chantilly lace above the waist and below in panels down the front and back where the lace extended the length of her train. Several unidentified children crowded onto a few chairs during the festivities at Katherine June Craig's and George Vincent Rickard's wedding on July 19, 1952 at the Parkside Church. Four of the girls wore similar brocade dresses with wide ruffles at the neckline, indicating that they may have been members of the wedding party. Another girl wore a white dress with an eyelet edged ruffle. The boy on the left wore a carnation boutonniere and held a ring pillow - he must have been the ring bearer.
