The buildings are, left to right, the Ouimette-Littlejohn Building at 1314 Pacific Ave. and the David Levin Building at 1312 Pacific Ave. The Quimette-Littlejohn Building was constructed around 1883 and was named after its builders. In 1979, it was home to the U & I Cafe. It has since been demolished. The David Levin Block was built in 1908. In 1979, it was home to Pacific Loans. It has also been demolished.

ca. 1979. The three year old Bicentennial Pavilion, 1313 Market St., was photographed in 1979. It was designed by Tacoma architect Robert Billsbrough Price and opened on June 25, 1976. It was remodeled and renamed the Tacoma Convention Center in 1992.
ca. 1979. Faded Columbia Brewery mural on side of building, circa 1979. "Everybody knows it's better, Alt Heidelberg," accompanied by a stein lifting image of the company's signature student prince. The "ghost sign" dates back to 1933 when Columbia Brewery was still making its special lager brew Alt Heidelberg (Old Heidelberg.) ca. 1979. Unidentified fun statue (looks like a yard gnome with an umbrella hat) held captive on a pole, circa 1979. The figure appears to be both duct taped and tied to the pole.
ca. 1979. Commerce Street entrance (1520-22) of the 1519-21 Broadway St. building. The structure was named the Siler Block in 1889 when it was built by W.O. Siler, based on a design by architect G.C. Clements. A second story, designed by architects Bullard & Hill, was added in 1916 and the structure was renamed the H.A. Strong building. The building was renovated in 1985 and was later demolished to make way for the Convention Center.

ca. 1979. On the left is the back of the Jefferson House Nursing Home at 1748 Jefferson and on the right is the Massasoit Hotel at 1708 Broadway. The brick Massasoit was built in 1889 and remodeled almost 100 years later for the Moss Adams Accounting firm. It is now part of the University of Washington Tacoma campus.

ca. 1979. The Massasoit Hotel, circa 1979. The brick structure was built in 1889; Dennis & Proctor, architects; Col. John W. Pinkerton, builder. The former hotel is now the University of Washington Tacoma Institute of Technology.

ca. 1979. The view down 11th Street to the Murray Morgan Bridge, formerly the 11th St. Bridge. Dedicated in 1913, the $600,000 steel truss lift-span bridge provided a link between the downtown business district and the industrial Tideflats area. It was renamed for Mr. Morgan, perhaps the Northwest's foremost historian, in 1997. In 2007, the bridge was once again closed to traffic.
ca. 1979. View of native American style graphics on the window glass of the Anchor Tavern, 1352 Pacific Ave., as well as a neon representation of the emblem for Rainier Beer. The Tavern was located in the former McCormack Bro. Department Store, 1348-56 Pacific Ave, in 1979. McCormack Bro. was located in the Baker-Dickson Building; constructed in 1911, Russell & Babcock, architects. The building was demolished in 2003.
ca. 1979. The gaily striped awning decorates the exterior of Tutor Craft Interiors at 1531 Market St. In 1979, a newly remodeled store had opened following a disastrous fire in Jan. of 1978. The business had opened in 1944 and specialized in custom draperies.
