ca. 1979. 1979 photograph of the intersection of Fawcett Ave. and 13th St. and the Ford Building at 1302 Fawcett Ave. The building originally housed the Manley-Thompson Ford Agency. It was built in 1918 and designed by architect E. J. Breseman. After a remodel in 1931, it was combined with the Auditorium Building (1308-10) and renamed the Crescent Hall. The painting on the side of the building is for "Crystalike Color Processing" for "kodacolor, kodachrome, ektachrome and anscochrome."

The building became Tacoma's processing center during the World War II relocation of Japanese Americans. It was placed on the City and National registry in the 1980's. The land was purchased by the University of Washington-Tacoma in the late 90's and the dilapidated building was razed.

ca. 1979. An ornate arched doorway at the Samson Hotel, 1152-56 Fawcett Ave. The Hotel converted into apartments was demolished in 1989 after several fires, despite its city, state and national registry.
ca. 1979. The historic Waddell Building, 1502-04 Pacific Ave., circa 1979. The structure was built in 1890 by builder James Waddell. It has been remodeled and in 2004 it was incorporated into the Marriott Hotel.

ca. 1979. Photograph taken in 1979 of the Aerie (hang gliders) located at 1527 Commerce, on the Commerce side of the Crystal Palace Building (1508-16 Jefferson), built in 1889. The Aerie was not listed in the City Directory, indicating that it was a short time business at this address. In fact, it appears to be boarded up and abandoned in the photograph.

Wildroot Cream Oil hair tonic was preferred by barbers and comic strip character Dick Tracy. By the late seventies when this picture was taken, these items would already be collector's items.
