Daffodil Parade, Times. Queen Doreen Moody and Princesses Joy Lundgren and Jerene Fly are seated on the royal float. They have had a busy week. The 15th annual Daffodil Festival began March 29, 1948. Coronation took place on March 2nd at Sumner High School. Parades through Tacoma, Sumner and Puyallup and a flower show took place March 3rd. The yacht parade and sail boat races on Commencement Bay took place March 4th and a ski race at Paradise Valley on Mount Rainier also took place on March 4th. (TNT, 3/30/1948, p.1)
Daffodil Parade, Times. The Afifi Shrine Circus float showed three members seated in thrones wearing turbans, long beards and decorated robes while two others are dressed as island natives under a palm tree with fans to cool the nobles. Five children, bundled up against the cold, sit on the curb to watch the 15th Annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Parade. Held on April 3, 1948, thousands of Tacomans and out-of-town visitors lined Broadway and Pacific Avenues to watch the 100-unit parade. Ted Brown, the chairman of the festival, estimated that 1,000,000 daffodils were used to decorate the many floats. The Daffodil Queen, Doreen Moody, shared the attention of the crowd with Gretchen Fraser, who had just won a gold medal at the 1948 Winter Olympics. TPL-9606

Daffodil Parade, Times. Tacoma's Women's Clubs sponsored a float for the Freedom Train that was making its way around the United States carrying copies of 127 great American documents important to the history of the United States for citizens to see. The Freedom Train, sponsored by the American Heritage Foundation, was to be in Tacoma April 8, 1948. A man stands in front of the float dressed as an engineer. (T.Times, 4/1/1948, p.1)

Daffodil Parade, Times. The Amvets float represented a tank and a young woman waves to the crowd from the top. A band is in front of Peoples store heading past the Puget Sound Bank Building along Pacific Avenue. In all 1/2 million daffodils were used in the parade. One hundred floats, bands, mounted posses, and marchers appeared in the fifteenth annual parade.

The annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival parade was a great success. With more than sixty entries in the Tacoma parade, the judges had a hard time selecting which ones should be sweepstakes winners. An estimated 600,000 daffodils were used on parade floats. On April 18, 1936, Queen Helen Edgerton enjoys the parade from her throne in the base of the 35 foot daffodil "tower" that served as a reviewing stand for the Daffodil Parade. On either side of her are members of her court. At this time, the princesses did not wear matching dresses, so each member of the court is dressed differently with the wide brimmed hats being the only unifying element. The 35-feet-high, four-tiered reviewing stand for the 1936 Daffodil Parade on So. 10th Street & Pacific. The stand is covered with 200,000 bright yellow daffodils. The Stationers Inc. at 926 Pacific Avenue can be seen in the background. The picture windows have been cleared of displays to set up chairs for viewing the parade. Children dangle their feet from open third story windows as they wait for the parade to start. Those not having these lofty perches to view the parade have lined up several people deep on the ground. The prize winning float in the Daffodil Parade, entered by the Puyallup and Tacoma Active Clubs. The float is a flower bedecked replica of a US destroyer, complete with swinging lifeboats and a rosy cheeked crew of little girls in nautical attire. Thirty thousand spectators, three times the population of Puyallup, were estimated to have attended the 1946 Daffodil parade on March 30, 1946 in that city. The first post war Daffodil parade was 90 minutes long. On of the first groups to pass was Governor Mon C. Wallgren sitting on the back of a convertible.
