Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was named after Dr. Edward H. Todd, in honor of his many years of service to the school. College of Puget Sound had many new additions in mind for the future, hoping to make CPS one of the nicest and most modern liberal arts colleges in the Northwest. Dr. Olaf M. Jordahl, Ph. D. (background) taught physics and mathematics, engineering majors usually had classes with him. Since the new Science Hall opened, students at Pacific Lutheran College had some of the most modern science equipment available to them, which made the classes better than before. Pacific Lutheran College had just dedicated their new $200,000 Science Hall in 1947. Classes were now being taught in the building, which had modern, fully equipped labs available in the classrooms. The new building enabled students to get hands on experience in the science field. View of students in a classroom with microscopes and lab tables, the instructor is Verner L. Johnson (standing, left), Master of Science, Biology. Professor Johnson spent two years at PLC from 1946-48 following his release from service at Fort Lewis. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in zoology at Washington State College (later named Washington State University) in 1953 and joined the faculty at the school's College of Veterinary Medicine the same year. CPS Alumni. Cynthia Thompson is working with a young man making plastic boxes. The therapist is measuring the opening of the box while the young man had a piece of plastic with a backing on it held in a vice. Another man is working on a project behind them. Cynthia Thompson's uniform has a University of Wisconsin badge on the sleeve. She was taking a 10 month field training program at Madigan General Hospital.

CPS Alumni. A graduate of the Occupational Therapy program at the College of Puget Sound is working with a young man with rounds of sheet metal at a bench. The occupational therapist is showing him how to pound the metal into a specific shape using a wooden form. Examples of what can be made from sheet metal are shown on a shelf above the work table. One of the pieces has spelled out the name, "Cynthia". An open cupboard contains metal working tools. The young woman is using a ball peen hammer to finish a piece and the man is using a leather-faced forming mallet.

Students (all men) work in a science lab with microscopes, slides, rocks, test tubes and small bottles of different solutions. A motar and pestle sits on the table for students to use to grind materials with which they want to experiment further. Jars of labeled materials sit on shelves around the room and gas lines are also seen against the wall to provide flame for certain kinds of experiments.

In February of 1948, the alumni reunion planning committee sipped coffee as they discussed the upcoming annual Pacific Lutheran College reunion scheduled for February 7-8th at the Parkland campus. Pictured graduates were, L-R, Lorene Wilson, Marjorie Wentworth, Stella Jacobs, Alice Ford and Wilma Schmitz. Activities for the two-day get-together included a smorgasbord banquet, a basketball game between the PLC reserves and the Alumni All-Stars, and a mixer featuring home movies of the Alumni's college days. Pacific Lutheran College had built three new facilities during 1947: a three-story student union building, a gymnasium and a science hall. Pacific Lutheran College's library was designed in 1936, building began in 1937 and the building was dedicated in 1939. This building was designed by Emanuel J. Bresemann, a local Tacoma architect. Pacific Lutheran was planning to remodel the library during 1948, view of PLC students outside of the library, possibly between their classes or on their way to study (Saga, 1948).

College of Puget Sound. Three male college students, members of the Intercollegiate Knight National Service Fraternity, are cleaning an attic. One of them is dismanteling what looks like a bed frame, and the other two are mopping the floor. Old furniture, roll-up blinds and other items are still piled up around them. The walls are finished in wooden planks. This group participated in the year-round activities of the college and undertook two major spring projects: remodeling the out-dated bulletin boards at Jones Hall and the procurement of a chapter room. Dr. Eastvold was PLC's President, in addition to the new gymnasium Pacific Lutheran College had also built a new $200,000 Science Hall in 1947. CPS. Students at the College of Puget Sound are determined to win the many valuable awards in the Tacoma T-Man contest. One young man is wearing a gas mask. Two hold rifles and the last one holds a revolver in his hand and a pipe in his teeth. They have scoured the campus in hopes of locating the elusive subject. The 7th jingle clue was, "For he is sound as sound can be, A saint in two he is, not three. All will vouch and praise his name, and then go on to win the game". "T-Men", an Edward Small production released by Eagle Lion Films, was opening at the Rialto Theater. The film starred Dennis O'Keefe and was based on a compilation of three actual cases of US Treasury Department agents going under cover to track down a counterfeiting ring. R. Franklin Thompson, President of College of Puget Sound, is wearing a baseball mitt and standing on the C.P.S. baseball field. Thompson had a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.), he had been the President at C.P.S. for many years. President Thompson liked to get involved in many of the College activities (Tamanawas, 1947).

Tacoma Chamber of Commerce, new men's dorm under construction. The brick work on the College of Puget Sound was started June 2, 1947, by the MacDonald Building Company June 2, 1947. Pacific Lutheran College was first known as Pacific Lutheran Academy between 1898 and 1919, in 1920 they changed Academy to College. In 1944 PLC officially stated they intended to build a new gymnasium, but building was delayed until the end of World War II. Harvel was formerly with the Tacoma Tigers. One young man is reviewing materials from a notebook. Sigma Nu Fraternity. The 101st Sigma Nu fraternity chapter was installed April 24, 1948. It was the Zeta Alpha chapter on the College of Puget Sound campus. On the left is Arthur A. Barlow, First Vice Regent of Sigma Nu. The local chapter president, Clarence Nelson, is in the middle. The man on the right may be Malcolm C. Sewell, General Secretary of the national organization, who arrived April 23rd from Indianapolis for the ceremony at the Corinthian Room, Masonic Temple. College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?". Pacific Lutheran College was proud of the new combination chapel/music/speech building that would be the religious and cultural center of the campus. At a cost of $625,000, it contained a 1,238 seat auditorium, music facilities, and a radio studio. A small devotional chapel, seating 75 people, was on the third floor.
