McChord Field, on the site of what once was an airstrip owned by the city of Tacoma, opened on May 5, 1938, after being chosen as the best site in the Pacific Northwest by military officials to establish an air base. circa 1960.
American Smelting & Refining Co. (ASARCO) was located at 5300 No. 52nd St. in Ruston. This smokestack was sometimes touted as being the largest in the world. circa 1917.

In this picture the Block House is shown in its original location, along the Chehalis River, just beyond the mouth of the Skookumchuk River. It was moved to Riverside Park in 1919, and to its current location in Fort Borst Park in Centralia in 1922. It was built for the protection of the Chehalis River crossing. circa 1909.
