This house, located at 618 North Sixth Street in Tacoma, was built in 1931 for Malcom Saxton, the president of Saxton Lumber Co.. This picture was taken in 1949 when the house was owned by Leon Titus the President of Titus Motor Company and Titus Manufacturing Company, the authorized Ford trucks and automobile dealers and Ford engine rebuilders in Tacoma. The flowering cherry tree in the front yard is in full bloom.

This beautiful home at 425 Tacoma Avenue North was built in 1905, in the Modern English Style. This house was built on part of Buckley's Hill; in 1887 this property and two blocks along the North side of Tacoma Avenue (from North 4th to 6th Street) were owned by James N. Buckley, Assistant General Superintendent for the Northern Pacific Railway Company. View of iron and glass dining table, chairs and side table, bird painting hangs above on wall; this was possibly the informal dining room at the home now owned by George Franklin.

George G. Franklin's family home was the winner of the Tacoma Times House Beautiful contest in 1947, this house had also been nominated in 1920. The home, located in Tacoma's Stadium-Annie Wright Historical District, eventually became the Central Lutheran Church Parsonage in 1975. In 1889 James N. Buckley was planning to build an elaborate house on this lot and a local newspaper featured a story with describing the future home. For some unknown reason the house was never built. Charles H. Hyde had this house at 425 Tacoma Avenue North built in 1905; it was later owned by Harold A. Allen, Henry Rhodes and George G. Franklin. Insulation being blown into walls of home, Llewellyn Advertising Agency, Mr. VanMeter. Bonded Builders truck is parked in the driveway while they are insulating this home with insulation blown into the gaps in the walls left behind by building methods. The contracting company was owned by R.G. Hoffer and P.L and L.L. Beckstead.

Insulation being blown into walls of home, Llewellyn Advertising Agency, Mr. Van Meter. Workmen have removed portions of the siding from this residence and drilled holes in the sheathing in preparation to blowing insulation between the studding in the walls of the home. The insulation was blown in with enough pressure to fill the areas between studs with the loose material. Air would be trapped in the material which would cut down on drafts and save money on heating. Several types of insulation materials were developed at this time.

Several views of George Raknes residence, George D. Poe, Co; Mr. Melendy. A view of the exterior of the Scott Mansion, "Belleterre", built for David C. Scott in 1924. Edwin J. Ivey was the architect. It was made of stucco on hollow tile with stone and brick trim with a heavy slate roof in the French Gothic chateau style. Decorative features include tapestry brick and floral relief in the dormer gable ends and decorative half timbering around the windows. The windows are of leaded glass. A large bay window is seen on the left, a bow window is seen below the dormer facing the front and another bay window is on the far right.

The 2nd Annual Tacoma Beautiful Contest attracted six full buses of sightseers who traveled throughout Tacoma for the 2-hour Tour of Homes and Gardens. Following the tour, everyone gathered at Hotel Winthrop's Crystal Ballroom for a tea reception where Leon Titus announced the contest winners. John and Hazel Kellson's home and gardens in Parkland, shown here, won 2nd place. George Warter's home, located at 7829 Pacific Avenue, was the winner of the special award for the "Most Beautiful Home Grounds"; he was awarded a weeks vacation to Rainier National Park, all expenses paid. Wollander Far-West Homes. A truck is delivering the components of this prefabricated house. The foundation has already been laid and workers are stacking the newly delivered materials in the middle of the subflooring for the new home. Trusses are ready to be unloaded from the truck. They are nearly the first thing off the truck since they will be almost the last thing added to the house.

Wollander Far-West Homes. Willard A. Wollander was the owner of Wollander Better Buildier Plans and Wollander Far-West Homes. The third exterior wall units of the prefabricated house are being added to the foundation. Four men are moving this section, which already has the door opening in it, to the edge of the foundation and will angle it up into place. Window openings are already in place on the opposite wall.
