Contemporary home with beautiful view of the Narrows Bridge, ca. 1961. Apparently built on a hillside, this modern home appears to have large skylights and a two-car garage. Two vehicles are parked nearby. This is the home of George Franklin at 636 No. Fairview Dr., and was built for him by famed Tacoma architect, Robert Billsbrough Price about 1956. Mr. Price built schools, temples and even a fire station. The William Weaver family were the second owners of the home, living there from about 1972 to 2003. Located at 235 Broadway with views of Commencement Bay, it was designed by well-known architect Robert Billsbrough Price. O & M Builders Supply was listed as the builder with Ostruske -Murphy, Inc., as contractors. All one and two-bedroom units would have balconies at the rear of the building. New construction by Dean Lyster Construction Co. This home in the University Estates subdivision was included in the 12th annual Tour of Homes held in mid-August, 1961. It was one of eighteen new homes on display in the tour sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Greater Tacoma. The "modern colonial" featured a recreation and family room with sliding glass doors to the rear court, separate living room with colonial fireplace, tile entry, oak paneling, 1.5 baths, and a two-car attached garage wtih automatic electric door available. The use of rough, natural wood and rock garden featuring large boulder near front door appears to blend the home with the natural setting. The location of the home was not identified.
Dining room. The presence of highly polished wood is highlighted in this 1962 photograph of a Raft Island dining room. A rectangular table, leaves folded, is decorated with two candelabra and a small floral display. China and stemware are present for viewing behind glass-enhanced wall cabinets. Long built-in wooden cabinets with marble-like tops are situated below them. The ceiling is accented by one exposed wooden beam from which a singular lamp dangles. Street on right center, intersecting No. 1st, is Tacoma Avenue So. Large Mission-styled building on right side is Walker Chevrolet. Tall building on extreme right side is believed to be the Park Towers. Romanesque structure around the curve on Tacoma Avenue So. is the well-known First Presbyterian Church.

Eric Hayes may have had his residence on the same piece of property as his new nursery in Purdy, a small community near Gig Harbor. The two-story Dutch colonial home had a porch surrounding the second floor; it would have provided a clear view of the woods and garden plots. There were several rectangular plots of land, contained with borders, which would grow specific plants and shrubs. The Eric Hayes Nursery celebrated an open house on March 22, 1958. Located seven minutes from the Narrows Bridge, the nursery carried a wide variety of trees and shrubs, as well as garden equipment and supplies. Photograph ordered by Eric Hayes Nursery. View of newly completed multi-level wooden apartment house for the elderly. The 58-unit apartment house was located at 602 So. Wright Ave., at the corner of Wright Ave. & "G" St. The apartments were built for the Tacoma Housing Authority by United Homes Corp. at a cost of $620,000 in 1968. Columns accentuate this Colonial-styled unidentified brick home in July, 1965. A gently curving porch provides shade and shelter for those wanting to view the nicely landscaped yard. An unusual wrought iron bench with portraits on the backrests is placed under a window.

Grand opening of senior housing building. The newly completed senior citizens apartment building at So. 12th and "M" was dedicated on November 24, 1968. It was built under the sponsorship of the Tacoma Housing Authority and Senior Centers, Inc. The building's community room was named in memory of the late Rev. E.B. Wilson. For 50 years Rev. Wilson had been a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and its pastor for 25 of those years. Gerrit VanderEnde, chairman of the board of Pacific First Federal Savings & Loan and chairman of the Tacoma Housing Authority, smiling held one end of the plaque honoring Rev. Wilson which will hang in the community room. The woman sharing the plaque with Mr VanderEnde is believed to be one of the two daughters of the late Rev. Wilson present at the dedication, Mrs. Sadie Armstead and Mrs. Rex Jones of Seattle. The other man in the foreground is believed to be Rev. E.S. Brazill, longtime pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. 1969 Richards stock footage. This small apartment complex, believed to have been called the Vera Vista Apartments, was on the outskirts of the University Village Shopping Center at 40th & Bridgeport in University Place. Tall firs provided a buffer against the shopping center's parking lot. Covered walkways surrounded the building; this view on May 12, 1969, is believed to be of the rear and sides of the complex.

The home was built with several large windows with prime views of the water although the drapes were pulled shut on this spring day in 1973. There is a deck extending the length of one side of the home facing the water, a portion of which has been roofed for protection against the elements. The creek or river is just steps away from the home's lawn.
March, 1971, view of contemporary home built by Crest Builders located at 15301 - 12th Ave. E. in Spanway. Dubbed "Greenridge Manor," this was one of two model homes on display during the annual Tacoma Home Show. Located in a wooded lot with natural landscaping in the Greenridge subdivision, the residence included an attached two car garage. The 1750 sq.foot home with its modern gabled roofline was built with multiple levels, bathrooms and fireplaces. Vaulted ceilings provided an air of spaciousness. Photograph ordered by Crest Builders. The home has the typically A-frame structure often found in Lindal Cedar Homes. The Georgetown model home. One of the five bedrooms designed by Pete Naccarato for Heritage Homecrafters' "Georgetown" model home was evidently meant for youngsters, probably boys. The bedroom could easily fit two twin beds constructed in a roughly hewn style and decorated with bold patterned bedspreads and matching curtains. Framed pictures of Indian warriors hang on one wall while miniature trains, boats and toy figurines add to the room's appeal. One bedside lamp appears to have as its base a parking meter. Model home. This is the kitchen and dining area of the model home, "Springtime," built by Crest Builders in 1977. The home in the new Meadowcreek subdivision was on display in March of that year, in time for the Tacoma Home Show. Light colored General Electric appliances and cabinets helped to create a feeling of spaciousness in this one-story contemporary home. The solid yellow vinyl floor and daisy-filled wallpaper seemed to produce a "springtime" atmosphere. ca. 1927. The Walker Apartments at 6th Ave. & St. Helens, under construction in 1927. Robert Walker of the Walker Cut Stone Co. hired Tacoma architect Roland E. Borhek to design the building faced with Wilkeson Sandstone. It was the first apartment building in the Northwest built with a stone exterior. Owners Robert & Glenda MacMahon were successful in placing the building on both the Tacoma and National Register of Historic Places in 1995. (TDL 11/6/1927, pg. 2-3B)
The North End home of Edwin and Elizabeth Gregory was built in 1929 by Heath, Gove & Bell, architects. It was constructed of stucco with a tile roof and had a wide extended driveway. Mr. Gregory was a leading furniture manufacturer who would pass away in January of 1937.
Drawing of the modern English-styled home of John H. Abeel. The circa 1927 Stadium area residence was located at 815 No. G St. and was designed by the architectural firm of Heath, Gove & Bell. The lstately arge home had three levels and a basement.
Unidentified home with neatly manicured lawn as pictured on March 17, 1923. House number is 3601 but street is not given. The home has a large porch with brick-like pillars and an awning in front. There appears to be a small dormer and the roof is apparently shingled.
Lampposts on South "J" St. This is a view of South "J" St. , south of South 21st St., looking north, as seen on March 28, 1924. The quiet street has lampposts evenly spaced on both sides.
